As the Civil War ravages the nation, sixteen-year-old Elizabeth Renter is left to raise her younger sister in the rugged Arkansas Ozarks. Although there are no major battles between soldiers of the two armies, guerrilla warfare rages around her, and with brothers in both armies, she is unsure where her family stands.
