Undone explores 52 unrealised projects by Ayse Erkmen, offering a rare glimpse into the conceptual force of works that remained unbuilt. Often conceived for competitions or public contexts, these projects—halted by spatial, political, or logistical constraints—reveal Erkmen’s artistic depth through sketches, renderings, and notes. Rather than viewing these ideas as failures, the book highlights their significance as powerful, stand-alone conceptual works. With texts by Friedrich Meschede and Cem Ileri, Undone reflects on the meaning of realisation in contemporary art, challenging the notion that only completed works define an artist’s legacy. Erkmen emerges not only as an installation artist but as a thinker who engages deeply with space, form, and society. Celebrating intention and imagination, Undone presents unrealised art as fertile ground for rethinking public space and possibility.

At first glance, the paintings of Matthias Dornfeld might strike us as na ve or even primitive. However, his still lifes, flower and animal depictions, and abstracted portraits occur in a compelling discourse with the avant-garde of European art history. Yet the works are equally accessible without that background, namely with their playful and provocative gestures, which tend to push the depictions to the brink of possibilities. After a comprehensive retrospective in the Villa Merkel Esslingen, this book documents the show and includes texts by Friedrich Meschede, Daniela St ppel, and Christian G gger. The in-depth essays illuminate Dornfeld's oeuvre and iconography and furthermore discuss the unconventional hanging of the show as well as its reception.

Hans Hofmann, a representative of Abstract Expressionism and American Modernism during the 20th century with European roots, had a fundamental influence as a teacher on the development of modern art in America. His brightly coloured paintings, watercolours and drawings can now be discovered in a European retrospective. From 1904 until 1914, the painter Hans Hofmann (1880 – 1966), who was a friend of Picasso, Braque, Matisse, the Fauves and Robert and Sonia Delaunay, witnessed and absorbed the new art in Paris, the centre of European art. In his art school, founded in Munich in 1915, he became a mediator of French modernism and achieved international fame as an art teacher. In 1932 he emigrated to the United States and two years later opened the Han s Hofmann School of Fine Arts in New York. He influenced a new generation of American artists, including Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler and Barnett Newman.

Denna rikt illustrerade publikation har utgivits i samband med den uppmärksammade konstnären Cecilia Edefalks omfattande separatutställning på Prins Eugens Waldemarsuddes hösten 2016. Although Minimalist artist Dan Flavin (1933–1996) is best known for his brightly coloured installations of fluorescent lights, he was also an avid draftsman. This richly illustrated publication is the first to explore the central role drawing played in his art, to include his drawings from nature and to consider excerpts from his journal in which he wrote about his passion for drawing.
