When George Chance slips into the night, the underworld knows something uncanny is abroad. Magician, master of criminology, and implacable pursuer of justice, THE GHOST uses sleight of hand, cold reason, and a fearless will to unmask killers who think themselves beyond the law. In these 1940 adventures by G.T. Fleming-Roberts, Chance confronts murder that wears a mask and laughter that hides a corpse-cases that test his methods, his wit, and the thin line between illusion and truth. George Chance: The Ghost Archives, Volume 2 collects "Murder Makes a Ghost" and "The Case of the Laughing Corpse," presented here as they first thrilled pulp readers-taut, theatrical, and relentlessly clever. For devotees of classic crime and anyone who loves a detective who practices detection like magic, these two tales deliver shadowy suspense and courtroom-caliber cunning.
Unravel mysteries with Jeffery Wren in Volume 2 Dive back into the whimsical world of magician-detective Jeffery Wren, created by G.T. Fleming-Roberts, as he navigates a series of perplexing cases that blend sleight of hand with hardboiled detective work. In this volume, Wren tackles challenges like "Scare a Man to Death" and "He Couldn't Stay Dead," where the seemingly supernatural collides with his keen investigative instincts. Joined by his quirky sidekick Horace and the savvy Zoe Osbourn from the police department, Wren's adventures promise wit, charm, and a dash of magic. Don't miss the continuation of this light-hearted detective series that has captivated readers since the mid-forties

One by one the Eight Frightened Bachelors met violent deaths, meted out by a merciless ring of midnight murderers... that could be challenged only by the fabulous Captain Zero, whose strange, eerie gift was at once a double-edged weapon of deliverance-and of destruction
Against a strange murder-master who held first a neighborhood, then a city, and then an entire, powerful nation in an icy paralyzing grip of fear, Captain Zero must wage a grim final battle-using only the guns of a small midnight patrol, that would turn against him at the first crimson streak of dawn
Three sinister slay-rides turned a giant metropolis into a city patrolled by terror... helpless, save for one man-the fabulous Master of Midnight, whose strange cloak of invisibility was, at the same time, a gift of the gods-and a curse of the Devil

Because George Chance, whose first memoir we are privileged to publish herein, is such an essentially modest man, we feel impelled to say a few words about him on our own account. Writing about himself, he has naturally been prevented by his modesty from doing full justice to his great attainments in the twin fields which he has combined and made his own--criminology and magic. We hope he will pardon us, therefore, if we do a little blowing on his own horn.George Chance, Magician, might never say that he is tops in his profession, but there's nothing to prevent our saying it for him. There's nothing to prevent our telling you, for example, that he has excelled the late Harry Houdini in the technique of escape. We do not hesitate to state that in employing his magical talents in his crime-fighting role of The Ghost, he has done more in the service of the Law than any other man of his generation. Small wonder that criminals quiver at the prospect of tangling with The Ghost--master of the science of criminology, remorseless crime-tracker and criminal catcher When The Ghost walks, the underworld stirs into deadly life to combat him.We suggest that you remember these things when you read this and future memoirs of George Chance. We suggest that you keep in mind that this modest, kindly, humorous magician is a far bigger man than he makes himself out to be. He won't say so himself. That's why we're saying it for him.Contains the first two adventures of The Ghost, written by G.T. Fleming-Roberts.
