V knigu voshli dva poslednikh krupnykh proizvedenija velikogo anglijskogo poeta-romantika Dzhordzha Gordona Bajrona (1788-1824), napisannye v 1823 godu, - poemy "Bronzovyj vek" i "Ostrov" v perevodakh poetov serebrjanogo veka Jurgisa Baltrushajtisa i Vjacheslava Ivanova. "Bronzovyj vek" - eto gnevnyj otklik poeta na Veronskij kongress uchastnikov Svjaschennogo sojuza, sozdannogo posle porazhenija Napoleona. "Ja poslal g-zhe Shelli, dlja perepiski, stikhotvorenie strok v 750, - pisal Bajron Li-Gontu: - ono naznachaetsja dlja chitajuschej doli milliona i vse sostoit iz politiki i pr. i pr., predstavljaja obschij obzor nashikh dnej, v stile moikh Anglijskikh Bardov, tolko nemnogo vitievatee i, mozhet byt, s izbytkom "boevykh epitetov" i namekov klassicheskikh i istoricheskikh. Esli ponadobjatsja primechanija, ikh mozhno budet prisovokupit". Poema vyshla iz pechati 1 aprelja 1823 g. bez imeni avtora. Temoj poemy "Ostrov" stal mjatezh komandy anglijskogo korablja "Baunti" v 1789 godu. Poema opublikovana otdelnym izdaniem 28 ijunja 1823 g. v Londone. Rabotaja nad "Ostrovom", Bajron ispolzoval svedenija iz dvukh knig, na kotorye ssylaetsja v strokakh, predposlannykh poeme. Avtor pervoj knigi - admiral Uiljam Blej v 1787 g. byl poslan na korable "Baunti" na ostrov Taiti, chtoby dostavit v VestIndiju sazhentsy khlebnogo dereva. Na obratnom puti komanda korablja podnjala mjatezh i vysadila Bleja s neskolkimi vernymi emu chlenami ekipazha v nebolshoj barkas. Na nem on proplyl ot ostrovov Tonga cherez Tikhij okean k ostrovu Timor i v Bataviju (nyne Dzhakarta). Iz vtoroj knigi ("Soobschenija Uiljama Marinera ob ostrovakh Tonga") Bajron poluchil predstavlenie o prirode etikh ostrovov i obychajakh mestnykh zhitelej. Khristian Fletcher byl matrosom na korable "Baunti" i odnim iz predvoditelej mjatezhnikov. Perevodchik: Baltrushajtis Jurgis, Ivanov VjacheslavRedaktor: Genkin V. I.

V odnom tome sobrany vse stikhotvorenija i poemy velichajshego anglijskogo poeta-romantika XIX veka Dzhordzha Gordona Bajrona ( 1788- ] 824).
