Es geschah Ende 2034, dass sich die drei K nige Putin, Trump und Xi Jinping auf eine Dreiteilung der Welt einigten... Das einzige Land, das sich erfolgreich der Vereinnahmung durch die drei Weltm chte widersetzte, war ausgerechnet das kleine Island. K nig Trump hatte erst einmal seine Berater konsultieren m ssen, um zu erfahren, wo dieses Land lag. In einem Telefonat teilte ihm Putin mit, dass er dieses Eiland nicht haben wollte. Als Trump erfuhr, dass das Land voller Vulkane und Gletscher w re, verk ndete er, dass auch Trans-Amerika diese Shit-Hole-Insel nicht haben wolle. Zumal er ber den Namen eines dieser Vulkane gestolpert war: Eyjafjallaj kull. Alle seine Nackenhaare hatten sich gestr ubt, als er wieder und wieder versucht hatte, diesen Namen zu lesen. Ein solcher Name grenzte aus Sicht von Trump an eine Unversch mtheit. Einen Vulkan mit einem derart zungenbrecherischen Namen zu belegen. Sollten sie ihn doch behalten, ihren Eierlukull-Vulkan. Dabei hatten die Wissenschaftler behauptet, auf Inseln k me es zu Verzwergung. Diese Namen sprachen eine andere Sprache Es best rkte K nig Trump wieder einmal in seiner Einsch tzung von Wissenschaftlern. Diese Eierk pfe hatten keine Ahnung. Xi fand es unter seiner W rde, sich mit einem solch trostlosen Eiland berhaupt zu besch ftigen. Und so kam es, dass Island als einziges Land unabh ngig blieb. Wie das Leben so spielt...

A time of new beginnings In 1969, Franz Gertsch painted Huaa...!—which shows a wildly galloping man on horseback—after a film still from a magazine. Photographs have formed the basis for his work ever since, which he almost always takes himself. They include snapshots of the young Gertsch family, pictures from a trip to the South of France, photos of his encounters with Luciano Castelli and his dazzling circle of friends, and portraits of Patti Smith. This publication shows key works from the seventies, both in full views and with details in original size. Zeroing in on these almost abstract-looking details reveals the vibrant quality of the painting with its shimmering surfaces. FRANZ GERTSCH (b. 1930) celebrated his 90th birthday in 2020. With his participation in the documenta in Kassel in 1972 he rose to international fame as a Swiss Photorealist. The paintings in this book were done during this decisive creative phase. How Beuys combined his political, scientific, spiritual and artistic concerns into a compelling vision of "social sculpture"This book examines the crucial period between Joseph Beuys' (1921-86) return to his hometown of Kleve after World War II at the age of 24 and his appointment as a professor at the Kunstakademie D sseldorf in 1961. During this "incubation" phase, key themes relevant to his future work emerged, which structure this book: biography as material for artistic formation; poetry/romanticism; natural sciences: physics, chemistry, botany, zoology and geography; philosophy/anthropology and Steiner; economics, capitalism, labor, politics. The aim of this book, along with the 2021 exhibition of the same name at Museum Kurhaus Kleve for which it is the catalog, is neither to venerate a local saint of Kleve nor to topple an artist from an earlier generation. Instead it highlights the influences and ideas that saw Beuys develop from a "sensitive traditionalist" into a "visionary social sculptor."

Als im Ort ein Projekt "Deutschnachhilfe f r Kinder von Asylbewerbern" gestartet wurde, beschloss ich, mich zu beteiligen. Ich wurde ein sog. Nachhilfepate. Ein kleines ukrainisches M dchen namens Valerija wurde mir zugeteilt. Die Nachhilfe gestalteten wir spielerisch. Ich integrierte dazu eine Kasperlefigur namens Albert, Albert versuchte, bei Aufgaben in Deutsch und Mathe zu unterst tzen, machte dabei aber immer wieder Fehler. Valerija musste ihm helfen. Dumm nur, dass Albert nur Deutsch verstand. Albert hatte eine anarchische Ader. So st rte er Valerija einmal, als sie ber der Mathe-Hausaufgabe br tete: "Ich w rde so gern mit dem Raumschiff ins All fliegen", seufzte er. Sie blickte auf. "Puppen k nnen nicht ins All fliegen " beschied sie ihn. Er hielt ihr entgegen, dass fr her schon Hunde und Affen ins All geflogen w ren. Dass ein Hund ins All geflogen war, akzeptierte sie, aber Affen? Nein, das glaubte sie nicht. Als er ihr erz hlte, dass er sich bei der NASA f r einen Raumflug ins Zentrum der Galaxie beworben h tte, sah sie ihn nur skeptisch an. Nat rlich ging es zuerst wieder darum, dass Puppen nicht ins All fliegen k nnten ... Dieses Buch will allen in der Fl chtlingshilfe engagierten Menschen Anregungen geben und Bereicherung sein. The old Federal Republic of Germany is history--a fact made especially poignant by these photos of the abandoned Dresdner Bank building. The tower--the most beautiful high-rise in Frankfurt on Main--was opened in 1978 as the bank's head office. The construction was planned by ABB Scheid und Partner architects office, the corporate design was developed by Otl Aicher. Following the bank's acquisition by Commerzbank in 2009 the head office of Dresdner Bank was vacated. In Silver Tower, a series of pictures taken between 2009 and 2011, photographer Matthias Hoch explores the deserted building. He looks for signs and remnants of an era, for the biography of the place. Meticulously structured surfaces, signs of wear and the interplay of light and shade are probed to reveal their traces to the camera: scratches, marks, layers.
