Henryk Sienkiewicz (1846-1916) on kindlasti kõige tuntum ja kõige tõlgitum poola kirjanik. Eelkõige tõid talle kuulsuse ajaloolised romaanid: triloogia "Tule ja mõõgaga", "Uputus" ja "Pan Wolodyjowski"; "Ristirüütlid" ja "Quo vadis". Ja just eeskätt ajalooliste romaanide eest sai Sienkiewicz 1905. aastal Nobeli kirjandusauhinna. Ehkki Sienkiewiczit on eesti keelde tõlgitud päris palju, tuleb kahetsusega nentida, et enamasti on poola kirjandustitaani teoseid eesti keelde ümber pandud häbematul kombel nudituna, seni on täielikus tõlkes ilmunud vaid "Ristirüütlid" (1976, tõlkija Ruth Karemäe) ja "Quo vadis" (2025, tõlkija Hendrik Lindepuu).
