New York from Above is a collection of spectacular photographs taken by Evan Joseph of New York City’s most iconic landmarks and skyscrapers. Commissioned by One World Trade Center for the opening of the iconic One World Observatory in May 2015 and only available at One World Observatory, this is the first time the book has been made available to the public. Evan Joseph, widely regarded as New York’s top real estate photographer, has spent nearly three decades shooting the city’s greatest tourist destinations and most coveted real estate, including the penthouses and homes of Sting and Trudie Styler, Rupert Murdoch, Jon Bon Jovi, Alex Rodriguez, Sean P. Diddy Combs, and many others. The book includes brief descriptions by Joseph about his process for getting the perfect shot, including death-defying shots from the exterior of a helicopter.

Dallas-based architecture firm Droese Raney approaches each project with a generosity of spirit and sense of enthusiasm that encompasses not only client and design but also the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of the greater community. The result is a series of buildings and interiors that uses the principles of modern architecture to create comfortable, informal settings; attends to small details and to complex urban contents; highlights the contributions of artists and artisans; and above all tells a story of a specific time and place. The 16 projects in Droese Raney x Design include retail outlets for Billy Reid, the Conservatory, and Neighborhood Goods, each highlighting a distinct, individualised brand; urban redevelopments such as Good-E and 2800 Main, which transform dilapidated historic structures into lively commercial and entertainment zones; and restaurants including José and Mi Cocina, which bring artisanal traditions to contemporary venues. Especially notable are Forty Five Ten, a four-story department store appointed entirely in Knoll furniture and textiles, and the Warehouse, a 31,000-square-foot space for art exhibition and storage. Interspersed between the projects are five first-person narratives from Droese Raney’s noted clients and collaborators as well as a sixth with the “insider view” from the firm itself.

During his campaign for the presidency, one of Donald Trump’s signature promises was that hewould build a “great great wall” on the border between the US and Mexico, and Mexico wasgoing to pay for it. A year and a half into his term, with only a few prototype segments erected, thewall is the 2,000-mile, multibillion-dollar elephant in the room of contemporary American life. In The Great Great Wall, architectural historian and critic Ian Volner takes a deep dive into thestory of Trump’s wall. Volner follows the conception, selling, design, and construction (or lack thereof)of this expensive and consequential barrier, giving readers a detailed look at what’s happening inWashington, DC, and along the border. He also travels far afield, to China, the Middle East, NorthernEngland, and back to our border to examine the barriers we’ve been building for centuries. Why dowe build walls? What do they reveal about human history? The Great Great Wall is an absorbing, smart, and timely book on anincredibly contentious and newsworthy topic.

Arquitectonica is the design firm that put Miami on the map for the cool, hip, very now architecture that was first celebrated on TV in Miami Vice. Since their founding four decades ago, the firm has grown exponentially in stature, and its energies have only increased. Arquitectonica is a major presence on the world architectural stage, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Manila, Dubai, Lima, and Sao Paulo. Founded in 1977, the firm received critical and popular attention and acclaim almost from its inception, thanks to a bold modernism that was immediately identified with a renaissance in Miami s urban landscape. Principals Bernardo Fort-Brescia and Laurinda Spear continue to this day exploring and pushing the limits of materials and design with their innovative use of geometry, pattern, and colour. The first book on this major international architectural design firm since Rizzoli s own Arquitectonica (2004), this volume is a retrospective of the firm s forty-year history, considering its earliest projects the archetypal and hugely influential Pink House and Babylon Apartments to Regalia Condominium tower, its twenty-first-century masterwork of undulant glass and steel.
