Ilija Trojanow

Zeno Hintermeier is a scientist working as a travel guide on an Antarctic cruise ship, encouraging the wealthy to marvel at the least explored continent and to open their eyes to its rapid degradation. It is a troubling turn in the life of an idealistic glaciologist. Ilija Trojanow travelled along the Ganges, from the source, where it breaks free from the eternal ice in the Himalayas, to the great cities, by boat, by bus, on overcrowded trains. In Nomade auf vier Kontinenten stellt Ilija Trojanow das unkonventionelle Leben Burtons anhand von Ausschnitten aus seinem Werk vor und verknüpft sie mit den Erlebnissen seiner eigenen Reisen. Dadurch entsteht nicht nur ein plastisches Bild des exzentrischen Lebemanns aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, sondern auch eine historische Brücke zwischen damals und heute, die von den Veränderungen erzählt, die in den letzten hundertfünfzig Jahren erfolgt sind.
