La producci n de alcohol anhidro para su uso como carburante y en otras aplicaciones, es un tema de bastante inter s puesto que en distintas partes del mundo se viene investigando e implementando tecnolog as para reemplazar de forma parcial, y en algunos casos total, los combustibles originados a partir de recursos no-renovables. Este trabajo aborda la etapa de la deshidrataci n de etanol para llevarlo a la condici n de anhidro, a trav s de la tecnolog a de la destilaci n extractiva que tiene un potencial bastante alto en cuanto al consumo energ tico de la operaci n. Se hace el dise o conceptual y de detalle de una columna de destilaci n extractiva para procesar 50 l/h de etanol azeotr pico. El dise o conceptual hace uso herramientas de simulaci n y la columna se dise a a trav s de un modelo riguroso de No-equilibrio que permite cuantificar los efectos de transferencia de masa y calor en cada una de las fases. El dise o de detalle est enfocado a la adquisici n de un equipo eficiente, de operaci n flexible y de bajo costo.
