Mach's Philosophy of Science

Mach's Philosophy of Science

Dr Bradley’s aim is to provide a work which will introduce readers to the philosophical standpoint employed by Mach in his expositions of physics. The author shows how Mach traces out the evolution of the metrical concepts of heat and mechanics, and includes a discussion of his reformulation of Newton’s dynamical principles. Mach’s view that we have a semi-awareness of both time and temperature is considered: there is no ‘Mach Principle’ in Mach’s writings; the use of the term by Einstein and others has led to confusion, which the author attempts to remove. The newcomer to the philosophy of science is led to an insight into the methods of one who has had a major influence on the subject.

Henry James remained throughout his life focused on his boyhood and early manhood, and correspondingly on younger boys and men, and John R. Bradley illustrates how it is in the context of such narcissism that James consistently dealt with male desire in his fiction. He also traces a more subtle but related trajectory in James's writing from a Classical to a Modernist gay discourse, which in turn is shown to have been paralleled by a shift in James's fiction from naturalistic beginnings to later stylistic evasion and obscurity. This radical book, which covers the whole of James's career, will quickly be recognized as a defining text in this emerging field of James studies.

"When you (or your tumors make you) drift off to sleep during class, you see another classroom, with the American Algebra teacher on TV talking about how to calculate a body count during a war where American lives are lost, how the bodies with the non-preferred skin color aren't factored in. The Math teacher says this is how we can show the American god how much we are winning by how much we aren't losing."Introducing Teenage Wasteland: An American Love Story, the debut novel from the prizewinning flash fiction author J. Bradley. Capturing a singular drop of our position in America's history is not a small task, but if we trust anyone to do so, it should be Bradley."The girl whose mouth opens sideways then tells you about how the boy who coughs up oil speaks throughout his body, and you nod as if you didn't already know this, didn't make out "you" and "beautiful" when you nuzzled up to the boy who coughed up oil as he showed you your first star through the wheezing smokestacks while you struggled for air from the second bottle of wine."

Senator Minotaur is proof of the unexplainable and a candidate to become the next president of the United States. Senator Minotaur believes we must cleave in twain the obstacles impeding our nation's security, cleave them like a sharp axe to wood. A Greek scholar and an avid swimmer, Senator Minotaur resides in Florida with his wife and their soon-to-be adopted son; an orphan himself, Senator Minotaur is unshakably committed to literacy programs and education funding for children under protection of the state. Please do not try to shake his hand. Likewise, Senator Minotaur's stances on gun control, marriage, and the importance of water conservation to our economy are unambiguous, and he politely asks that you do not ask him to repeat or clarify his stances. Senator Minotaur believes in Florida and God, and is softly but firmly asking for your vote.

A Ruskin Chronology

The theme and scope of the Chronology focus on the life (in bare outline) and publications (in temporal order) of John Ruskin (1819-1900). As art-critic, social commentator, architectural scholar, geologist, botanist, water-colourist, lecturer, letter-writer and prose stylist, Ruskin stands forth as perhaps the pre-eminent Victorian polymath. His advocacy of art and artists, his courage in the face of hostile, uninformed criticism and his enlightened compassionate views of the human condition reveal Ruskin as 'not of an age but for all time'. These attributes the Chronology endeavours to suggest.
