This book is specifically for the enlisted Marine. The officers have their books. Who will tell our stories of what happens and maybe why? What could have been done differently? This book contains a story part and a dialogue aspect. It dares asks so many essential questions; left for the young Marine (that all deserve deeper explanations and answers for some of the things that are not always so obvious)? The story itself, begins with boot camp and the dialogue centers around how we can possibly improve the single greatest elite fighting force in history. This book is obviously an American tale and it is ours. It is brutal, profane, and all too real. The few, the proud; the Marines. Semper Fi

The first African American to win the world heavyweight championship, Jack Johnson (1878-1946) was the preeminent American sports personality of his era. Holder of the title from 1908 to 1915, Johnson continued to box professionally until he was in his 60s. His 1910 victory over the formerly undefeated champion James J. Jeffries in "The Fight of the Century" triggered race riots across the country, and racial bias fueled the clamor for his defeat by a "Great White Hope." Johnson was a cultural lightning rod whose professional success and lavish lifestyle attracted both admiration and envy. In this witty and sophisticated memoir, he recounts without bitterness the prejudice, controversies, and scandals that dogged his public and private lives. Johnson was well known for his exploits beyond the boxing world, and he offers vivid accounts of his international adventures as a bullfighter, race car driver, cabaret entertainer, and spy. His outrageous feats include rescuing a passenger train from murderous bandits in Mexico, chasing a kangaroo across the Australian outback, walking away from five fiery car crashes, and surviving revolutions in Spain, Brazil, Cuba, and elsewhere. The only edition of Johnson's autobiography currently in print, this volume features 16 full-page illustrations and an introductory article by Damon Runyon.

The Leaky Whale tells the delightful story of a whale named Earl who, by helping a crew of friendly seamen in a terrible storm, was helped by them in return. This long out-of-print classic was originally published in 1946. The charming and colorful watercolor illustrations were created by Charles Darby, who died in England returning from a World War II mission in 1944. Darby's close friend Jack Johnson, and his wife Laura Johnson, were determined to share the illustrations with young readers and so, wrote the story and arranged for the book's publication.Darby and Johnson were both members of the legendary Beachcombers artists club in Provincetown, Massachusetts. When the New York Times reviewed the book in 1946, its reviewer wrote: When this book was read to ten four-year-olds, they wanted it 'again' and at the end of that reading, 'again.'
