Dispensational theology has been defined and caricatured in popular opinion by its opposition, the Reformed (Covenant) theologian. The purpose of this book is to define Dispensationalism and biblically describe the four doctrines that make Dispensationalism a valid theology distinct from Reformed theology. Those doctrines are hermeneutics, soteriology, ecclesiology, and eschatology. In chapters devoted to each, I discuss the doctrines and answer questions and objections, in order to give the reader an understanding of Dispensational doctrine from the perspective of a Dispensational theologian.Dispensationalism is also falsely accused of being a new doctrine originating with John Nelson Darby (1800-1882), despite many publications, past and present, revealing its ancient origins. In the chapter on the history of Dispensationalism, I will quote the church fathers to show Dispensationalism was part of the early church. Then, I will quote theologians of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries before Darby (19th century) that show the revival of Dispensational thought after a millennia of Roman Catholic dominance. Through Understanding Dispensational Theology, the reader will have the opportunity to gain an accurate knowledge of Dispensationalism, and be able to fairly assess Dispensationalism as a biblically-based theology. The fellowship of all believers is strengthened when we have the full truth of those doctrines in which we disagree.
Judges is the record of the failure of the people of God to possess what God had given them for a possession. God had given them the land, and led them into it, but they failed to fully possess their possessions. That is why the book has meaning for Christians. Through Israel's failures, and their successes in the book of Judges, the Christian can learn how to fully possess all the spiritual benefits of salvation Christ has for them in this mortal life. This commentary explains the book and draws out the lessons for God's saved people.

The Passion and Resurrection of Jesus the Christ is a gospel harmony and exposition of the four gospels from two days before Christ's final Passover celebration through his Ascension into heaven. The gospel harmony is in the form of a combined narrative, using my translations of the four gospels. The harmony combines Matthew 26:1-28:20; Mark 14:1-16:20; Luke 22:1-24:53; and John 12:1-21:25 into a continuous, chronologically arranged narrative of the events and discourses. The exposition is based on my published commentaries on Matthew, Mark, and John, plus Luke's contribution to the gospel narratives, presenting a detailed explanation of the scriptures in the harmony. Combining the Scriptures into a continuous narrative at once reveals the agreement of the gospels. The authenticity, accuracy, and credibility of the four reports of the life of Christ is demonstrated. Many issues are resolved and insights gained. Among these are the Passover problem in John 18:28, Peter's two sets of three denials, and Christ's two scourgings by Pilate. Mark 16:9-20 is shown to harmonize with the reports of the other gospels. The problem of the supper at Bethany, reported on different days by John and the Synoptics, is resolved. A discussion of the relationship between ancient and modern days and dates precede the harmony, and two appendices discuss Peter's denials and Mark's ending. The harmony and exposition are structured in a day by day format, from Nisan 13 to Iyar 27 (April 1-May 17, AD 33). Every event and every discourse is included in the harmony and explained in the exposition. The Bible student will gain a new appreciation of the Person and work of Jesus the Christ.

A thoroughly exegetical and explanatory commentary explaining the meaning and significance of Mark's Gospel. The book assumes and defends Peter the Apostle as the true author. The exposition is based on the author's literal translation of the Greek text, with notes to identify and explain variations from standard works such as the NKJV, NIV, and HCSB. Textual views are discussed where appropriate. The book has a high view of Scripture as God's inerrant Word, and uses grammatical-historical principles to interpret the text. The book treats Mark's Gospel as an independent portrait of Christ, but also coordinates with the other Gospels to provide a clear picture of Mark's view of the life and times of Jesus the Christ. The book takes a dispensational view of Christ's first advent salvific mission and eschatological prophecies. The author writes for any Christian who wants to continue their study of the Bible, for Bible study leaders and teachers, Bible college students, and local church Pastors.
The greatest problem in today's Christian church is a lack of biblical and doctrinal teaching. Yet, forty-plus years teaching in local churches has taught me most Christians just want to sit with someone, ask questions about the Bible, and get reasonable, accurate, and understandable answers. In today's world of short attention spans, forgotten text messages, and blogs that are here today, lost in bytes and pieces tomorrow, the essay may seem an old fashioned way to communicate vital truths to the media generation. But it works. As with the first volume of Biblical Essays, the ninety-seven essays in volume II are the end result of a year's worth of posts on doctrinally conservative social media groups. They've provoked sharing, discussion, and occasionally controversy. The essays explain the Bible, Calvinism, Dispensationalism, sin, salvation, the Savior, other aspects of theology and doctrine, and especially the art and science of hermeneutics (interpretation). If you have wanted to sit and discuss the Bible with someone, sit and talk with me for a bit. Most of these essays are between 1,000 to 1,500 words, a lunch-time read. Here is bread, meat, and drink for those hungry and thirsty to understand the spiritual things of the Word of God.
Life, Death, Eternity is a path through the thicket of opposing opinions, explaining biblical answers to the most important questions about life and the afterlife: what makes us alive, where do we go after physical death, and how do we get there. Life, Death, Eternity is a thorough Bible study of Sheol, Hades, Gehenna, Heaven, resurrection, the Bema Seat judgment, the Great White Throne judgment, the Lake of Fire, and the Eternal state.

Books on Hermeneutics are full of theory but short on practice. The Literal Hermeneutic gives both: an Explanation section and an Illustration section. In the Explanation section, ten chapters present and discuss the principles and precepts of the literal hermeneutic. Biblical texts are used throughout to demonstrate the use of the literal hermeneutic to discover meaning and significance. In the Illustration section, twenty-five essays demonstrate the principles and precepts of the literal hermeneutic in action by interpreting common and controversial Bible texts. Each essay highlights one or more of the six analysis methods of the literal hermeneutic. A closing appendix provides a convenient list of the principles and precepts of the literal hermeneutic.

Lexicons and theological dictionaries often discuss a word without ever giving a succinct definition. In my years of writing commentaries and doctrinal works, I have had occasion to construct definitions for many words. The Bible doesn't define, but through careful observation of how a word is used, one may construct a useful definition. By combining lexicon, theological dictionary, and observation of use, I have defined many important biblical words in doctrinal and practical terms. Latest update, version 4, 2022.

John's Gospel is designed for every Believer who sits in Sunday schools or Bible studies and for their Bible teachers. Any Believer can study John's Gospel through this commentary and answer for themselves the two basic questions: what does it mean, and what does it mean to me? The author believes John's Gospel is the accurate, authentic, and credible product of God the Holy Spirit and the Apostle John. John wrote a historically reliable account of that part of the public ministry of Jesus the Christ which was not revealed by the Synoptic Gospels. His message throughout is that Jesus is God the Son, the Son of God, the Christ, and most importantly, the Savior. The commentary is thoroughly exegetical and explanatory. It is based on the author's translation and covers necessary grammatical and theological details without being tedious or exhaustive. It takes a common-sense approach to difficult issues in the Gospel, seeing them in the light of Jesus' historical and cultural setting. Other commentaries are compared and selectively used where profitable to the reader.
Eighty biblical essays from a Calvinist Dispensational Baptist. These essays address biblical issues such as inspiration, interpretation, how to study the Bible, sin, the Savior, and salvation, eternal security, Calvinism, Dispensationalism, the church, eschatology, eternal life, judgment, pastoring, spiritual gifts, atonement, propitiation, depravity, election, resolving hermeneutical issues, and more. Each may be read independently, and no particular order of reading is required.
Marriage and Family: A Biblical Perspective explores the biblical principles and precepts-rules for living-that are the basis for the practical aspects of being married and raising a family. Along the way it does discuss a few "do this/don't do that" rules. Beginning with Adam and Eve, the book presents God's definition of marriage, what Jesus said about marriage, and clearly defines what marriage is and is not, in terms of how modern society views marriage. The biblical rules for sexual activity, friendship, dating, and courting are discussed. God's rules for being married and practicing parenting are presented in clear, easy-to-understand terms. God's view of divorce is thoroughly examined. Seven appendices repeat the rules (without the discussion) and answer questions on related issues.Anyone may read the book and profit from it, including Bible teachers and pastors preparing marriage and family classes. If you want to know the biblical view of sex, dating, courtship, marriage, parenting, and divorce Marriage and Family: A Biblical Perspective is the book for you.

A theologically conservative, historical-grammatical interpretation of the Old Testament book of Haggai with attention to Dispensational perspectives. The book is viewed as the inspired word of YHWH to his people through the prophet Haggai. The response of the remnant to YHWH is analyzed within the historical context of the book. Appropriate applications made to the practice of Christianity. Though a small book, the prophet has much to say about fear, faith, and blessing.

"The details of John's Epistles pulled me and provoked thought, and not in such a way that would take away from a clear message, but actively challenging me to take in the message." -Ben H., College and Young Adult Pastor "John's Epistles has an in-depth analysis format and style that works well as a learning tool for me. I utilize many of the passages and themes as part of my teaching in our adult Sunday School class." - Eddy D., Adult Bible Studies Teacher"If you are looking for a verse by verse commentary series that isn't afraid to tackle every verse, including the difficult ones that so many other commentaries leave out or shallowly touch and move on, then you need to buy and study the commentary series by James Quiggle. It will help you in your everyday study as well as prepping for sermons and lessons." - Jody M., Pastor, Southwest Baptist Church"I have been a Christian for over 50 years and this book challenged me. It scrubbed my soul. It encouraged me. I have read the Epistles of John multiple times and have sat in Bible classes on them. But this book gave me time to chew on ideas, word definitions, and verb tenses, giving me an in-depth understanding I did not have until reading it. I was encouraged because I realized that the Holy Spirit is still working through men in this century to teach and disciple the church body. Yahweh is still on his throne " - Libby, Adult Women's Bible Teacher
