Presently a museum ship anchored across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, the New Jersey was the most decorated battleship in US naval history. One of the storied Iowa-class battleships, it first saw service in World War II, serving with distinction at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, before going on to play a role in the Korean War, then being reactivated to support the US interventions in Vietnam and the Lebanese Civil War. In the 1980s the USS New Jersey started handing out a colouring book to children who visited the ship during her many visits to ports around the world. This is a stunning, updated edition of this book, which will allow a new generation of children to fall in love with this iconic ship.

No other US battleship saw as much service through as many wars as the USS New Jersey. One of the iconic Iowa-class vessels, it was a 'fast battleship', designed for aircraft carrier escort and coastal bombardment duties. Recommissioned for both the Korean and Vietnam wars, it used its 16-inch guns for shore bombardment. Reactivated one last time in the 1980s, it supported US and UN operations during the Lebanese Civil War. Now a museum ship anchored in Camden, New Jersey across the river from Philadelphia, the New Jersey gives visitors the experience of what it was like to live and fight aboard a battleship, as well as teaching about the history it was part of. Written by the ship's head curator, the book will explore the history of the New Jersey and the men who sailed it, as well as the technical operations of the ship, including the inner workings of its massive turrets and guns.
