"Do Not Open Until Christmas" is a collection of Christmas-themed short stories from critically acclaimed children's author Jean Little. From a young boy settling in with a new family complete with new siblings (and a chipmunk and raccoon!) just in time for Christmas to a Dickensian story of Barnardo children trying to settle in to a new home after being rescued from the poverty of living on the dangerous streets of 19th century London, these stories are filled with hope and all of the warm and joyful feelings of the holiday season.
A brand-new board book edition, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this fractured fairy tale bedtime story In this hilarious fractured fairy tale romp, everything goes awry. Goldilocks lives with the seven dwarfs, a princess kisses Humpty Dumpty, and she and the prince rescue the Wicked Witch of the West! Can all this mischief get sorted out so that everyone lives happily ever after? Jean Little and Maggie de Vries's playful text and Phoebe Gilman's magical illustrations make this twisted classic a delight to share with new generations of readers.
I was asked by my son John and daughter Jan to fill in some of the gaps in the history of the family. So a few years ago I started to tell the story as I perceived it from my point of view. Often I had to stop, because parts of it took me back and I experienced the feelings I had then. Some of the secrets I learnt later in life, other secrets are still uncovered. Would they have made any difference if I had known what they were? I do not know . This seemed an appropriate time to have my family history and my story published as I am 85 and just retired from my business.
Emma has always wanted a little brother. Now her family is adopting Max, and Emma is sure he will be the best brother ever. But Max has his own ideas. He thinks sisters are yucky, and that Emma is the yuckiest Is this really what having a brother is all about? In Jean Little's warmhearted, perceptive story about adoption, Emma learns that there is more to having a little brother than she had ever guessed -- and that in order to get the brother she wants, she must first learn to be the sister he needs.
