Welby the Wallaby is a welcome visitor to my garden. He leaves the safety of the forest and hops along hard footpaths and roads to get to my property. He has a good look around at many of the fruits and vegetables that are growing in my garden. He visits often and sees my garden in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Satisfied that my garden is what he likes Welby returns to his forest home.
Taking advantage of confusion after a nearby battle, soldiers from Jericho attack a small village north of the Dead Sea. Two young children defend themselves and wound one attacker in the leg. Three adult villagers also survive to teach the children to live only for revenge and training rules their daily lives.Ashur and Gemekaa grow up as warriors but their feelings for each other blurs the need for revenge. Ashur expands his love-making skills with a city girl but he does not have the courage to tell Gemekaa the truth. Only after the adults have died do they finally leave the village to begin to seek the attackers in Canaanite towns along the shores of the Dead Sea.They go to Zeboim where Gemekaa learns of Ashur's betrayal but she knows she must remain with him as, despite her anger, she still loves him. They befriend two traders who help them to discover the harsh laws, inept legal judgments and rudeness from the local populace which combine to force the traders to decide to return home.On the way to Jericho the youngsters help a band of travelling entertainers to rescue precious costumes that had been stolen by local rogues. They join the troupe who move easily from city to city in the land of Canaan.It does not take the youngsters long to find their quarry in Jericho but they discover that he is Prince Therol, the heir to the throne. The Prince is a spoilt, but crafty, opponent and after several brushes with death, the youngsters decide to give up their quest and flee to safety in Egypt.However, the Prince will not let them go so easily. He has harboured bitter memories over his injured leg and once he realises who is responsible for his hated limp he is relentless in his pursuit of them.He has designs on the pretty Gemekaa and wants a slow painful death for Ashur. He finally corners them in Sodom where matters are taken out of his hands by the forces of nature. The whole valley erupts in fire and smoke, so the youngsters must fight nature, and overcome the Prince, if they are to survive.Working together the two youngsters fight Prince Therol and must hard work together to escape the forces of nature. Once they are safe will they go to Egypt or return to their old ways?
Coming from football fields in the Adelaide Hills Allan James, and his mates, volunteer for army service in the First World War. In Egypt hard training during the day across desert sands in the burning heat was hard work. However, at night, Allan and his friends find a bar where they can relax with cold beer and pretty, Egyptian women. The owner of the bar is a shady character who employs the lads to undertake shady dealings. But soon the troops moved off to war trenches in Gallipoli and then further afield to Belgium and Northern France.Allan James suffers mentally as his mates, and his first love, are taken from him by the bombs and bullets of the enemy. Participating in deadly fighting, having bombs fall all around, and seeing what happens to men's bodies affects his mind and he cracks. He finishes the war driving a lorry and goes home but his memories stay with him. He returns to Cairo, where he was happy, only to find more death and disappointment.Drowning his sorrows in alcohol Allan staggers down the coast of Africa. He wakes up one day to find himself in an unknown town with no money. He gets a job with a local criminal and during his duties he finds out about the possibility of getting his hands on some rough diamonds. He leaves town in search of a minister but when canoeing up a river he is bowled over by a large wave and stranded in the jungle.A large gorilla, which he names Poo-ah, seems to guide him to a jungle village where he finds an English girl who tends to his wounds. They are married in a native ceremony but forced from the village by superstition. Allan finds his wife's dowry before they find their way back to a settlement Allan passed when canoeing. Poo-ah and the couple help to free the gorilla's mate and two infants and return to the jungle. However, the criminals take chase and recapture Poo-ah's family so once again the Allan and his wife come to the rescue.Wary of the criminals who illegally captured the gorillas, Allan and his wife trek through southern Africa. They come across a native who rows them to a town where Allan buys a small car. Can the small vehicle get them to the nearest train depot for trains down to Kimberley?
In 1900 BC Nescar is thrown out of home by an abusive father. He visits towns in Mesopotamia before falling in love with Roscanna, an Assyrian trader's daughter. Beaten by a jealous Prince Tindal, Nescar is forced from town where he links up with Tennisbar. Roscanna joins them and they travel to Kanesh to set up trading businesses. Unjustly thrown into prison, after two years Nescar manages to escape only to find Tindal has taken Roscanna, who thinks him dead.Forced to board a trading vessel, Nescar sails to Egypt where he encounters the plotters who had put him in jail. In an ambush Nescar displays his fighting ability and joins the Pharaoh's guard where he is instrumental in foiling a plot to place an unrecognised Pharaoh on the throne.Nescar finds Kumani abandoned in the desert and falls in love. They sail to Harappa in India where he helps to repel an attack from the nomadic Aryan army. On the way to Assur in Assyria Kumani is murdered and Nescar moves on with a heavy heart. He returns to his home town that soon finds itself under attack. Can Nescar escape and save the life of young Prince Sarramya?
Having guessed the identities of eight dusty and weary travellers that wander into his home village, Ubar joins them to help regain the throne of Kussara for Sarramya. A growing bond between the two youngsters helps to bring about the success of their military venture and thus a crown for Sarramya. Nescar, a senior trusted advisor to Sarramya, is jealous of the newcomer and does his best to rid the court of Ubar. However, young Sarramya is wiser than many think and sets Nescar an important task which must include Ubar. Nescar oversteps the mark during a training exercise and beats Ubar viciously. Realising he was in error Nescar asks Ubar to become his second in command as they travel to Assur in Assyria to set up trade relations. Working together they fulfil Sarramya's wishes.Ubar is sent north to deal with a group of nomadic riders called the Kaskar who invade Sarramya's territory. The Kaskar prove elusive and hard to kill so Ubar is away from Kussara for a long time. Finally cornering the last of the raiders Ubar makes a peace treaty that includes a strange marriage deal.While Ubar is away from Kussara there is talk of Sarramya's lack of kingly strength which causes Sarramya to decide to enlarge his domain and he leads his army into a southern attack upon Tyara. Quickly overcoming any resistance, he is challenged by Mahandra, the King's daughter. He defeats her and beds her and soon marries her, but she resents the way he took her and the killing of her father, the King of Tyara, and sets about a plan to rid herself of Sarramya. She enlists the aid of a Tyaran warrior named Karidanta who, although willing to help her, has grand plans of his own.Becoming pregnant Mahandra calls for more help from necromancers she left behind in Tyara. In Kussara the necromancers find a cave deep beneath the city. They find the walls bedecked with ancient symbols and soon begin to practise odd rituals. They gain control of Mahandra through drugged drinks and continue their spell casting without any restraint.Mahandra produces three daughters before she seeks help from the necromancers to produce a son. Successful in producing an heir for Sarramya Mahandra now sets about her revenge in earnest. Her daughters are married off and Sarramya is drugged into helplessness enabling Mahandra and Karidanta to take over the running of Sarramya's realm.Ubar continues to spend a lot of time away from Kussara keeping the peace in Sarramya's realm. On occasions when Ubar is absent from Kussara, one by one Sarramya's oldest advisers meet untimely deaths that are made to look like accidents. Returning to Kussara Ubar finds much has changed in his absence. Sarramya is ailing, New troops from Tyara begin to be placed in positions helpful to Mahandra.Ubar and Nescar are sent to Jericho to work out a peace treaty with Egypt and while they are on the way Ubar finds a valley that would suit as a place to live in retirement. Upon their return to Kussara Nescar is assassinated. Now that her son is of age Mahandra finally kills Sarramya and declares her son King. A reign of terror grips Kussara as supporters of the old regime are eliminated.Ubar and his followers escape the city and Karidanta tries to find them using the necromancers' spells but when that fails he relies on the information from his spies and follows them into the desert. At a lonely oasis Karidanta catches up to Ubar and his men and Ubar leads his followers to a victory in which Karidanta is killed.The news of the death of Karidanta comes to Mahandra while she is in the throes of rejection as no necromancers remain to provide her drugged drink. Mahandra is killed in a knife fight.Can Ubar remain hidden from the new King and find peace?

Trajian, a Roman soldier, is plagued by voices he cannot understand. Deeply concerned at having to leave behind thousands of his comrades to the mercies of the Parthians after the battle of Carrhae Trajian finds life difficult. Along with Gustinus, his best friend, and eighteen other survivors they are sent to Carthage to spy for Caesar. Trajian finds that at first drink helps to keep at bay the nightmares that bother him but when the whispers begin he thinks he is losing his mind. It was not until the battle of Thapsus that Trajian fought in a victorious army but even then his comrades massacred thousands of the enemy when it was not necessary. Sent into the desert Trajian fights the local Amazigh and is lost in a sand storm. Alone and thirsty can Trajian find an answer to the whispers before he dies of thirst?
