One man's lust for power brought great turmoil and chaos to the world. In his quest for complete dominion over all, countless foes would fall before him, and would see the world as they knew it changed forever. But there were those who would not give up hope. Broken and divided, they united together and ended his reign of tyranny. With his army defeated and on the run, the enemy disappeared, leaving behind a barren and desolate wasteland. Before doing so, in one final attempt to Thwart his enemies progress, the tyrant put forth the remainder of his energy completly sealing everyone's power. In the wake of the enemy's defeat, one man and a select few looked towards the future, to a world free of oppression and war. What they had long seen as a curse, began to be seen as a blessing. Surprisingly the energy that was sealed away could yet be broken and that each seal broken, more power was granted. Under this mans leadership they began to build what is now known as the organization and peace finally returned. Nevertheless peace would not last... The enemy would not forget.

Enter the world of Jerry Watson and come along for a journey through his religious experience. This is a book of poetry written to stimulate and open the minds of all people regardless of their ethnicity or religion. Everyone has their own idea of what or who is God. Since a young adult I made it a point to build a personal relationship with the Creator. Instead of believing institutions I encourage everyone to seek out God for themselves through personal experiences, research, and knowledge. This is a shorthand version of my beginning to understand my religion called Christianity. After reading these poems I recommend everyone to have an internal discussion with oneself. Come along with me on my spiritual expedition expressed through poetry.

Many HBCUs are located in urban areas that face significant and endemic economic, housing, education and public health challenges. Colleges and universities represent real and potential resources, assets, anchors, and engines to drive and direct the positive development of their surrounding communities. This book discusses HBCU community development partnerships in the context of Jackson State University as a case study. The analysis and power of the community voices along with lessons learned from the Jackson State experience provide deep insight into the importance of higher education engagement in the development of its surrounding neighborhoods. This book concludes with an introduction to the Sankofa Framework for HBCU community development. The Sankofa Framework reflects the Akan (West African-Ghanian) belief that the past must be considered first in order to move forward. Three principles describe the framework and guide its application: HBCU leadership, community focus, and asset based. Finally, the author's greatest hope is that HBCUs will continue to work in with private and public partners and community residents to build healthier and more vibrant communities.
