When romance was met with murder...Arthur Jordan and Elvira Corder were young and unafraid, but their love was doomed. He was black, she was white, and this was Virginia in 1880. When Elvira became pregnant, the couple fled Fauquier County to live in Maryland. But her father found them and recruited neighbors to help kidnap them. Four nights later, a mob dragged Arthur from the county jail in Warrenton and lynched him. Elvira, taken to a hotel in Williamsport, Maryland, was never heard from again. Stories of lynching are all too common in the postbellum South, but this one tells a unique tale of a couple who were willing to sacrifice everything to be together--and did.Author Jim Hall tells a classic tale of forbidden love, one of hope crushed by hate.

Based on the song, "Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places," Finding God: Looking for Him in All the Right Places helps people change course and choose a more satisfying, fulfilling, and meaningful path. Author Jim Hall discusses how attaining happiness can't be found through such things as work, status, video games, cell phones, and other superficial means, but rather through the Bible and God. Finding God is about making decisions and committing to them; language-being able to articulate what our words mean; modern culture, including its fascination with technology; you and the need for more peace, meaning, and satisfaction in your life; consciousness and the role God plays in it; and Jesus of Nazareth, the most influential person ever born. In Finding God, Hall offers a look at God, Jesus, the Bible, and the reasons why you need to bring them actively into your life.

I've adapted coaching into "coaching buttons," where I use an available opportunity to do a brief coaching conversation with someone. The coaching button is a short coaching moment that sticks with your listener. Like the button on a shirt or coat, a coaching button doesn't do the whole job, but over time as you use more coaching buttons, the whole picture comes together. They key is to make these coaching buttons easily understood and memorable, so they are able to stand on their own and be part of a larger story. This book is a collection of essays about various topics on leadership and vision in information technology. As each essay presents an individual lesson about leadership, each can be viewed as a coaching button on that topic.By reading this book, I hope the coaching buttons will provide some insight on how to be a leader, how to lead through change, and how to do strategic planning. These are the essentials of good leadership.
The Last Lynching in Northern Virginia: Seeking Truth at Rattlesnake Mountain
In 1932, a black man was found hanging on Rattlesnake Mountain in Fauquier County. A mob set fire to his body. Officials identified the remains as Shedrick Thompson, wanted for the abduction and rape of a local white woman. Some claimed Thompson killed himself--the final act of a desperate fugitive. But residents knew better, calling the tragedy a lynching--the last one known in Virginia. Author Jim Hall takes an in-depth look at the events to expose a complex and disturbing chapter in Virginia history.

Online journalism is revolutionising the way news is reported and read. The rise of the internet has forever changed the way audiences interact with the news – stories are posted the moment they break and readers routinely expect to be able to access both the news sources and local perspectives. Online news and the pattern of media ownership raise a number of urgent questions about accuracy, press autonomy, freedom of speech and economic exclusion. Jim Hall provides a comprehensive guide to the emerging field of cyberjournalism and examines the issues it raises. Looking at how interactive texts are both written and read, the book surveys the new technologies and conventions that online journalism has ushered in. The author uses case studies such as Monicagate and the war in Kosovo to illustrate both the opportunities and the limitations of cyberjournalism. It is designed as a text to introduce how cyberjournalism works and how it can be used in innovative ways.
