Was Eden a special divine dispensation, a garden setting, only to introduce us to Adam and his crime against God's goodness? Or was Eden a vision of what God ultimately wanted to, and will, bring about in the Kingdom of Heaven? Was Eden designed to be a lesson only, an historically accurate metaphor, teaching us our need of a Savior? Was Eden about the "Fall" of Adam and nothing more? If we could go from Heaven to Eden or Eden to Heaven would the similarities be strikingly obvious to our hearts? There is some legitimacy in imagining Eden to have some relationship to heaven, but with some differences, of course. There will be no marriage or given in marriage there. But in Heaven we will be the Bride of Christ. In this short work it is not my purpose to propose any theological changes to what fundamentally we already know and believe about Eden and our first parent's life in their sweet innocence before the unthinkable happened. But I wonder if we have looked close enough at the text. Does God see you and me hiding in the trees? We have possibly assumed Adam and Eve, because they were first, would take complete liability for everything that went wrong. Like Peter I might have vowed to be faithful-I know so little about me But the good news is the restoration of Eden. That's coming.

What is The Righteousness of God? One might think the answer obvious: this is God's gift of salvation whereby now we are in right standing with God. However, the verb (in Protestant theology translated "to declare righteous") has been variously interpreted from being justified to being made righteous or sanctified. One thing is true: the word righteousness in our Bible has no meaning without God. "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." Romans 3:10]. "If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him." 1 John 2:29]. "There has often been occasion to observe the manner in which Greek words taken up into Christian use are glorified and transformed, seeming to have waited for this adoption of them, to come to their full rights, and to reveal all the depth and the riches of meaning which they contained, or might be made to contain." - Richard Trench It happens that scholarship, in general, has been rethinking what "The Righteousness of God" means. Is it only His justice enacted at Calvary or is it also His continued faithfulness in covenant with us. There is now a new perspective on Paul's use of this cherished truth NPP New Pauline Perspective]. This book looks into the matter with a view to accepting both ideas, which I metaphorically refer to as "The spaghetti with the sauce" since no one ever enjoys one without the other.
Devotional Thoughts from God's Word
Grace, like oxygen must be breathed in to bring life. It is not enough that it floats about in the ether. Grace needs to be a vital part of who we are in Christ. Perhaps, when Jesus taught us to pray: "Forgive us as we forgive," Matthew 6:12, this should be a template for action that is far more than just forgiveness. Perhaps, everything God does for us needs to be reflected through us like the sun's rays shining through the cathedral stain-glass windows featuring the saints. We are now those saints God's grace is the unpretentious and humble demonstration of His holiness in the person of the Savior of men. Grace is the transparent revelation of His character which was on display when God walked among us in the person of His Son. Many will not see what the few who come to believe in Him will see. It is our privilege as His witnesses to be ambassadors of His grace, but we must be transformed-lest this calling comes in conflict with those old carnal patterns of thought and behavior that must now be forgiven and forgotten and replaced by what best heralds through us God's great heart for His creation. This book reflects a desire to go deeper into all of this. Indeed, the inspiration of God's Word reveals secrets about our life in Christ but we must prayerfully mine them in deeper and deeper excursions into the Word. Grab you pick-ax and come along Solomon wrote "The glory of God hides a matter, but it is the honor of kings to search it out" Proverbs 25:2].

Can You See God in This Picture?: A Letter to My Sons Making Sense of 25 Years of Ministry
Growing up in the church often lacks the beauty and meaning that God envisioned. John King's ministry as a pastor and teacher spanned the years from 1969 to 1993. He and his family moved 17 times in those years, and pastored in five churches, once even moving several times while at the same church. Occasionally down to the last jar of peanut butter, faith played a real part in their spiritual journey. And then there were the children. With nary a negative word for the adults, Can You See God in This Picture? tells the story of what passion for God can accomplish, both constructively and destructively, and explores the angry and stupid things adults do in the church, which children see and remember. Written as a letter to his three sons, and with many personal admissions and anecdotes, this memoir has the potential to bless any whose faith has been tested, perhaps even destroyed, through church power struggles, theological bickering, political infighting, and all the other things that burn out even the good pastors and sometimes even force them out of the pulpit. Pastor King was known in Western Pennsylvania for his knowledge of Koine Greek and Classical Hebrew, having taught in Western PA Bible Institute in Butler, The Lighthouse Ministry in Washington, and Faith Seminary in Bethel Park, PA in the 1970's. He also taught at the Charismatic Conference in 1979 at Duquesne University. He graduated from a four year ministerial program at Northeast Bible College, which is now Valley Forge Christian College, and later returned to complete a course of study for a B.S. in Bible. In 1982, he received a Master of Bible Theology from the International Bible Institute & Seminary. Currently retired from the pastorate, he develops computer software at a financial- services firm in Boston and lives with his wife in their townhouse in a nearby town. He occasionally speaks at area churches, including the one he regularly attends, and he still harbors the dream of someday perhaps returning to professional ministry.
