Prophecy is cherished by many as one of the fivefold ministry gifts described in Ephesians 4:11 and foundational to the life of the church. Yet prophetically gifted people have a reputation of being different and difficult to live and work with. Understanding Prophetic People, written by a prophetic pastor who grew up as the son of a prophetic pastor and leader, helps readers better understand, relate to, and even minister to prophetically gifted people.R. Loren Sandford answers fascinating questions such as, What is it like to grow up as a prophetically gifted person? What is the difference between adrenaline and anointing? Who validates authentic prophetic ministry? How does a pastor rightly relate to a prophet? This rich resource seeks deeper understanding and wisdom on issues of foundational importance for prophetic people and everyone who loves God's gifts.

A newly discovered account of life in the trenches that challenges our perception of how British troops viewed the First World War. There is no shortage of personal accounts from the First World War. So why publish another memoir? The principal reason is the tone of enthusiasm, pride and excitement conveyed by its author, Private John Jackson.Jackson served on the Western Front from 1915 until the war's end; he was present at Loos in 1917, on the Somme in 1916, in Flanders in 1917; he was on the receiving end of the German offensive in April 1918; and he took part in the breaking of the Hindenburg Line at the end of September 1918. Conditioned by Wilfred Owen's poetry and dulled by the notions of waste and futility, British readers have become used to the idea that this was a war without purpose fought by 'lions led by donkeys'.This narrative captures another perspective, written by somebody with no obvious agenda but possessed of deep traditional loyalties - to his country, his regiment and his pals.

The Welland Canals and Their Communities

The Welland Canals and Their Communities

For over 170 years the Welland Canals have been a major industrial catalyst and an important agent of urban evolution, spawning a series of distinct communities along the length of the canals between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Four Welland canals have crossed Southern Ontario's Niagara Peninsula since 1829, and each update fostered a renewed economic expansion. The most recent change came in 1959, when the new St. Lawrence Seaway system opened the canal and the Niagara Peninsula to the Atlantic Ocean. The Welland Canals and Their Communities is an in-depth examination of the history and influence of each canal. It traces the changes over time in engineering elements such as the canal route, its water supply and flow, and its form, including locks, weirs, bridges, and other structures that have successively modified both the landscape and drainage pattern of its regional surroundings. In addition to these marine elements, John N. Jackson looks at the movements of vessels, the changing types of ships that have used the canal, and the economic character of trading flows within and through the canal to provide a detailed portrait of the interaction between transportation and land use at both the local and regional level. The changing canal scene and the evolution, form, and character of the canal communities provide the dual emphasis of Jackson's narrative, which concludes with an appreciation of the canal system and its potential at a time when heritage and tourist concerns rise to the fore across the Niagara Peninsula.
Judge Without Jury

Judge Without Jury

Cases connected with the troubles in Northern Ireland have been tried by a judge sitting without a jury in `Diplock Courts'. Given the symbolic importance of the jury within the common law tradition, this study offers the first systematic comparison of the process of trial by judge alone with that of trial by jury. The authors determine the impact of the replacement of jury trial with trial by a professional judge on the adversarial character of the criminal trial process.
