A Double Act draws upon various intoxicating books - Airborne Dogs, Nutters Without Fetters, Poems of Relative Unlikelihood, their verse novel The Ferrara Poems - later filmed - and The Gutman Variations, a study of Lacan.Warning: will produce exhilaration, euphoria, general systemic excitation, scorn, weeping, laughter. Parodic, yet intense - poems terse, thoughtful, complex or pellucid, philosophical, and not unacquainted with beauty, but always sharp, always funny - A Double Act."Due perhaps to their collaborative nature there is a remarkable freedom from anxiety here. But a deal of intelligence." - Stephanie Trigg, Island"Lucid, breathtakingly, drastically reductive - like Weil, like Brecht - caring and bare-knuckled, canny and guileless, winsome and ruthless - I love these guys " - Suzy Treister, Frieze magazine

This book looks at the life, activities and achievements of William, 1st Baron Sandys, Knight of the Garter. It is the story of a Hampshire man who, during the reigns of Henry VII and Henry VIII, achieved prominence from a relatively modest but well-connected position. He was very close to the centres of power throughout most of his life and was inevitably involved in the political and religious issues of the time. His relationships with Henry VIII, Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Cardinal Wolsey, Thomas Cromwell and senior courtiers are discussed. Evidence is presented that suggests that Sandys played a role in the downfall of Anne Boleyn. From the time he fought in the battle of Stoke in 1487, where he was knighted by Henry VII, to his death, Sandys was regarded as an outstanding soldier and was feared and respected by his French opponents. He rose from Treasurer of War in the 1512 Spanish campaign and Treasurer of Calais between 1517 and 1526 to become, for the last fourteen years of his life, Chamberlain to Henry VIII. In the 1520s he built himself the Vyne mansion, which has been described as a palace and was visited by Henry VIII and Elizabeth I on multiple occasions. He also extended the Holy Ghost Chapel in Basingstoke and converted Mottisfont priory to another mansion. All were furnished to the highest standards and taste using English and Flemish craftsmen.

Healthcare education is a discipline in its own right, and while each profession has its own distinctive body of clinical knowledge, in educational terms there is much that all professions share. Yet recognition for the healthcare educator role is often lacking. A more collaborative approach to the professional development of healthcare educators is needed in response to this and also to the rise of interprofessional and multiprofessional teamworking. Not all healthcare professions have guidelines for training their educators, and those that do have slightly different standards, which can lead to misunderstanding and miscommunication. It is in the interest of all healthcare professions that their professional bodies work more closely together to consider how healthcare educators can be supported as a distinct body with unique expertise and skills. This monograph reports on an 18-month long research project - the Healthcare Educators' Values and Activities Study (HEVAS) - which aimed to establish the views of health professions educators, regulators, learned societies and professional bodies on the shared values and key activities undertaken by all healthcare professions educators. The project was funded by Health Education England and the Wales Deanery at Health Education and Improvement Wales.Nine central values and 24 activities were identified after a five-stage research process involving hundreds of participants drawn from over 20 healthcare professions. A variety of methods was used to establish a broad and clear consensus, demonstrating conclusively that healthcare professions educators share a strong set of values around the importance of professional healthcare education to safeguarding excellence in clinical practice and patient care, both now and for the future. While each profession develops its students, trainees and practitioners in its own way, the fundamental work of the healthcare educator is broadly similar, regardless of clinical specialty or profession. This new insight provides solid academic underpinning for multi-professional and interprofessional practice in healthcare education, and offers a new shared perspective on the future for healthcare education and healthcare educators.

I am especially hopeful that this book will be useful to those who find marriage a daily battle. I ask those couples to read this book thoughtfully and prayerfully, and with hope. During a difficult time in my own life, a wise friend and counselor reminded me of Jacob's wrestling match with God in Genesis 32. After wrestling all night, God asked Jacob to let him go and "touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched" (Genesis 32:25). But Jacob refused to give up and let go. Instead, Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me" (Genesis 32:26). And so God Blessed him. "John" my friend said, "don't let go until you get every blessing that God is trying to give you through this." I pray that you'll hold on and wrestle well and that God will bless you with more than you've dared to ask for. But I want you to understand, as well, that while a marriage book can be tremendous help, if misused it can do as much harm as good therefore, let me offer a few precautions to keep you on track. Don't read this book simply because you think your spouse needs to read it. No doubt, as you read it your spouse's failings will come to mind. But your real focus must be on how you can change. Resist the temptation to meditate on your spouse's shortcomings. Instead concentrate on learning how to live a life of love and trust God with the results. Don't allow any marriage book to become a substitute for personal support and counsel. God designed life and marriage to community enterprises. A book may help but the complexities of life and marriage will always require more than a good book. Strive to include trusted friends, godly ministers, and wise counselors on your journey, especially if your spouse is battling addiction or is abusive. I hope that this book, in addition to being useful to individuals and couples will be useful in other settings: small group Bible studies Sunday school electives, perhaps even seminary classrooms. Marriage is not always easy. In fact, at times, it can be downright difficult and painful. What we often forget is that marriage can also be a very effective tool for spiritual transformation and for Christian witness. Jenkins primary thesis is that God can use the ordinary moments of our marriages to grow us spiritually, to draw us closer to God, and to help us to heal the more profound problems that become stumbling blocks in our marriage relationships

This very lively collection contains a wide sweep of poems, many of them prize-winning, taking readers on a remarkable journey. Some look to the past, others to the future, but all are of their time: the reverberating now. The tone is contemporary and bold, while the poet's sensibility tends to favour an eclectic inclusiveness.
The Rape of the Lock and the Dunciad (Deseret Alphabet Edition)
Alexander Pope (1688-1744) was an English poet, best-known for his translation of Homer and other works in heroic couplets. He is the most-quoted English writer after William Shakespeare. The Rape of the Lock is a satiric poem and mock-epic, based on a scandal caused when a nobleman, Robert Petre, cut off a lock of Arabella Fermor's hair without her permission. By recounting the incident in the elevated style of Homer's epics, Pope trivializes it in the hopes of ending the schism between the two families. The Dunciad, another mock-epic, pillories many of the then-prominent but now-forgotten literary figures of the day by describing their devotion to the goddess Dulness. This book is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for writing English developed in the mid-19th century at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah).
The Divine Comedy (Deseret Alphabet Edition)
Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) was an Italian poet and philosopher. He was the greatest poet of Italian literature, the greatest Western poet between antiquity and the modern era, and one of the half-dozen greatest poets of all time. It is no exaggeration to say that Dante is to Italian what Shakespeare is to English. The Divine Comedy is Dante's magnum opus. It is an epic, allegorical poem recounting Dante's journey through the afterlife, guided by the Roman poet Virgil and Beatrice Portinari, Dante's ideal woman. The Comedy encapsulates late Medieval thought on subjects such as religion, philosophy, politics, and science. The translation here given is that of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), a prominent American poet and translator. This book is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for writing English developed in the mid-19th century at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah).
