El Yoga Sastra comienza con una breve introducci n en la que se sit a la Filosof a del Yoga dentro de las diferentes escuelas filos ficas del hinduismo. A continuaci n, s e explican los aspectos m s importantes del sistema Sankhia, que guardan mucha similitud con las bases conceptuales del Yoga. El autor del libro se pregunta sobre cu l es el gran objetivo de la filosof a hind y, tras confirmar la visi n "pesimista" del mundo y de la existencia humana (cuyo fin ltimo es mukti, la liberaci n o cese del sufrimiento), pasa a explicar de manera m s detallada los aspectos principales de la Filosof a del Yoga tal y como fue expuesta en los Yoga Sutra de Patanjali. La Filosof a del Yoga se ala ocho caminos o elementos con los que podemos escapar de este ciclo interminable de reencarnaciones. Sin embargo, en los Yoga Sutra no solamente se nos ofrece esta posibilidad de liberaci n (mukti), sino que se nos dice que con la pr ctica regular del Yoga seremos capaces de conseguir una gran variedad de poderes ocultos, como hacernos invisibles, levitar, encontrar tesoros o convertirnos en luz. Este aspecto fant stico es ampliamente criticado en la obra. El autor considera que la mente hind tiende a aceptar con facilidad premisas falsas. Si sabemos que no posible que un Yogui levite o pueda atravesar paredes es posible que el resto de las afirmaciones que se realizan en los Yoga Sutra tampoco sean ciertas. Por ello, habr a que ver qu considera el Yoga que hace falta para conseguir estos supuestos beneficios y, aqu , el autor encuentra aspectos valiosos de la Filosof a del Yoga y otros que deber an ser mejorados. En la segunda mitad de la obra se propone un Yoga Sastra "verdadero" que elimine lo que pueda haber de fantasioso o incompatible con la raz n en Patanjali y que est en consonancia con los que sabios orientales y occidentales han defendido a lo largo de la historia, independientemente de su origen geogr fico, cultura o religi n.
