When I think of a specific location or find myself in a certain place in a city, I often envision a scene from a movie. It could be anywhere: the lawns of a park, a gas station counter, the check-in desk of an airport or a hotel, the entrance stairs of a school or a city hall, the tombstones of a graveyard. Or, pushing a button in an elevator, ordering a drink in a bar, waiting in line at the supermarket. I would now like to ask you to share one of your memories of a room or of a site in a film. Growth is the first book published by Jonas Dahlberg, a book which contains poems written between the years of 2008 and 2014, together with photos taken in France, Germany and Sweden between the years of 2010 and 2014. The cover, poems, photos and the structure of the book is an attempt to portray the powerful and emotional sense of death and the visions of what lies locked beyond the borders of life, as well as the states of the mind and flesh. “The whole energy and feeling I am left with is a defiant and hugely energetic stand both for and against death” and “Horrifying and real, but yet so seductive and grappling” these are just some of the impressions that have left their mark on those who have read and who have tried to describe this work of art.
