Introduction To Electronic Circuits: A Design-oriented Approach

Introduction To Electronic Circuits: A Design-oriented Approach

Jose Silva-martinez; Marvin Onabajo

World Scientific Publishing Co Pte Ltd

This book provides a compact and practical presentation of microelectronics circuits for a one-semester introductory course. Contrary to textbooks that are written for comprehensive two-semester electronics courses, the focus of this book is on the basic concepts and immediate discussion of application examples to instill more interest. The theoretical concepts are introduced by explaining the methods to analyze elementary electronic circuits with design considerations, design procedures, and simulation examples. With this approach, students are prepared early to design and measure simple electronic circuits in the laboratory. This is an exciting aspect that not only motivates students but also enables a well-rounded learning experience.

Design Techniques for Mash Continuous-Time Delta-Sigma Modulators

Qiyuan Liu; Alexander Edward; Carlos Briseno-Vidrios; Jose Silva-Martinez

Springer Nature Switzerland AG

This book describes a circuit architecture for converting real analog signals into a digital format, suitable for digital signal processors. This architecture, referred to as multi-stage noise-shaping (MASH) Continuous-Time Sigma-Delta Modulators (CT-?SM), has the potential to provide better digital data quality and achieve better data rate conversion with lower power consumption. The authors not only cover MASH continuous-time sigma delta modulator fundamentals, but also provide a literature review that will allow students, professors, and professionals to catch up on the latest developments in related technology.

Analog Circuit Design for Process Variation-Resilient Systems-on-a-Chip

Marvin Onabajo; Jose Silva-Martinez

Springer-Verlag New York Inc.

This book describes several techniques to address variation-related design challenges for analog blocks in mixed-signal systems-on-chip. The methods presented are results from recent research works involving receiver front-end circuits, baseband filter linearization, and data conversion. These circuit-level techniques are described, with their relationships to emerging system-level calibration approaches, to tune the performances of analog circuits with digital assistance or control. Coverage also includes a strategy to utilize on-chip temperature sensors to measure the signal power and linearity characteristics of analog/RF circuits, as demonstrated by test chip measurements. Describes a variety of variation-tolerant analog circuit design examples, including from RF front-ends, high-performance ADCs and baseband filters;Includes built-in testing techniques, linked to current industrial trends;Balances digitally-assisted performance tuning with analog performance tuning and mismatch reduction approaches;Describes theoretical concepts as well as experimental results for test chips designed with variation-aware techniques.

High-Performance CMOS Continuous-Time Filters

High-Performance CMOS Continuous-Time Filters

Springer-Verlag New York Inc.

High-Performance CMOS Continuous-Time Filters is devoted to the design of CMOS continuous-time filters. CMOS is employed because the most complex integrated circuits have been realized with this technology for two decades. The most important advantages and drawbacks of continuous-time filters are clearly shown. The transfer function is one of the most important filter parameters but several others (like intermodulation distortion, power-supply rejection ratio, noise level and dynamic range) are fundamental in the design of high-performance systems. Special attention is paid to the practical aspects of the design, which shows the difference between an academic design and an industrial design. A clear understanding of the behavior of the circuits and techniques is preferred over complex equations or interpretation of simulated results. Step-by-step design procedures are very often used to clarify the use of the techniques and topologies. The organization of this text is hierarchical, starting with the design consideration of the basic building blocks and ending with the design of several high-performance continuous-time filters. Most of the circuits have been fabricated, theoretically analyzed and simulated, and silicon measurement results are compared with each other. High-Performance CMOS Continuous-Time Filters can be used as a text book for senior or graduate courses on this topic and can also be useful for industrial engineers as a reference book.
