As a child Libby occasionally had visions of moments from the lives of Eliza, Beth and Betsy. Now nineteen and just finished her first year at university, Libby develops a much stronger and more frequent link to Liz. A combination of online searching and a visit to the local library lead to the discoveries that Liz lived close to Libby's new home and that her sister, Maggie, is still alive and living in the area. When Maggie confirms that Liz also had a strange link to the earlier Elizabeths, she and Libby make plans to continue the investigation that Maggie and Liz began many years earlier. They soon discover that the women form a chain through time, covering more than two centuries and bear a striking resemblance to each other.
