Kun suomalaiset vaurastuivat 1980-luvulla, iski maahan golfbuumi. Ympäri Suomea rakennettiin nopeassa tahdissa kymmeniä golfkenttiä, ja golfinpelaajien määrä moninkertaistui. Tässä novellikokoelmassa kerrotaan golfbuumin eri vaiheista 1980-luvun alkuvuosista aina 1990-luvun lopulle asti. Ennen Jukka Paakin romaania Mannerheim, tuntematon golfari hyvin harva tiesi, että kirjan päähenkilö pelasi Suomen itsenäisyyden alkuvuosina aktiivisesti golfia muun muassa Ranskan Rivieralla ja Tsekkoslovakian Karlovy Varyssa.Romaanin tosipohjaiset tapahtumat sijoittuvat Mannerheimin kylpylälomille Keski- Eurooppaan, 1910- ja 1920-lukujen vaihteeseen. Romaani antaa myös historiallisen perspektiivin golfin peluuseen.Jukka Paakki (s. 1955) on työskennellyt Helsingin yliopiston tietojenkäsittelytieteen professorina. Tästä erikoisalastaan hän on kirjoittanut runsaasti artikkeleita ja kirjoja. Lisäksi hän on kirjoittanut golfista blogeja, lehtiartikkeleja ja novellikokoelman.
