John Henry Newman - a leading Anglican and founding figure of the Oxford Movement who converted to Rome - was beatified by the Pope in September 2010, becoming the first English saint since the 17th century. This portrait of a saint in the making is based on Newman's great poem, The Dream of Gerontius.
