This is the fourth book in a series of stories which have previously been set 'in the north', and wherein there are several cryptic references to the possibility of strange and foreign peoples who live 'in the south'.So far, only one person, Walter Pollok, has managed the long and arduous journey to this mysterious land and has returned with tales and artefacts. But, to date, any meaningful trade has been impossible due to the distances involved and natural barriers such as seas and deserts. It is with some surprise therefore, that Walter Pollok receives a plea for help, delivered by a supernatural messenger, from his friend in the southern lands, Zasha, the Matriarch of Najiva. Her land is being threatened by her vicious and despotic neighbour, Nudogu of Kirgui, and her request is for any help he can muster on her behalf.Walter takes her request to his friend Jason Steele and the aforementioned Queen Jariya.Help is recruited from both humankind and the Enchanted Realm and a great adventure ensues. Many of the characters in the previous books of the series make substantial contributions as well as the introduction of new and colourful characters, including personalities from Najivan folklore and legend.
