This book is meant to serve as a manual on human cognition and digital technologies. It gives a comprehensive overview of what it means to create personality-like, thinking, reasoning, deciding technologies. It reviews the development of cognitive modeling as theory based on the principles of psychology and neuroscience and as used in AI, machine learning and human computer interaction. Inclusive chapters, which are well outlined in this book, include cognitive architectures, knowledge representation, natural language processing, and adaptive learning algorithms. As such, it accentuates how digital personalities complement and amplify real-world application solutions that include a virtual assistant, social robot, autonomous systems, and decision-support systems. Key subjects are supplemented by several case studies and examples from actual lives when the authors demonstrate how prominent cognitive models become the leading ideas for developing health cares, educational projects and smart surroundings. It also discusses useful and interesting ethical and philosophical issues that relate to identity, existence of consciousness, and humans’ interaction with AI. It examines the effect of having digital agents that imitate and emulate humans, as well as to some extent, control them. The book will benefit students, scientists, technocrats, and the common man, ‘Digital Personality A Man Forever’ unravels the missing link between human cognition and technology. This book gives an idea of the further evolution of digital evolution where in addition to the ability to process information, digital systems exhibit qualities that give them characteristics of sentient companions in the post-industrial world.

A computer that imbibes human characteristics is considered to have a digital personality. The character is akin to real-life human with his/her distinguishing characteristics such as history, morality, beliefs, abilities, looks, and sociocultural embeddings. It also contains stable personality characteristics; fluctuating emotional, cognitive, SOAR technology, and motivational states. Digital Personality focuses on the creation of systems and interfaces that can observe, sense, predict, adapt to, affect, comprehend, or simulate the following: character based on behavior and situation, behavior based on character and situation, or situation based on character and behavior. Character sensing and profiling, character-aware adaptive systems, and artificial characters are the three primary subfields in digital personality. Digital Personality has attracted the interest of academics from a wide range of disciplines, including psychology, human-computer interaction, and character modeling. It is expected to expand quickly as technology and computer systems become more and more intertwined into our daily lives. Digital Personality is expected to draw at least as much attention as Affective Computing. The goal of affective computing is to enable computers to comprehend both spoken and nonverbal messages from people, use implicit body language, gaze, speech tones, and facial expressions, etc. to infer the emotional state and then reply appropriately or even show affect through interaction modalities. More natural and seamless human-computer connection would be the larger objective. Users will benefit from a more individualized experience as a result. Additionally, this will affect how well the user performs since they will have the assistance of the robots to do their jobs quickly and effectively. This book provides an overview of the character dimensions and how technology is aiding this area of study. It offers a fresh portrayal of character from several angles. It also discusses the applications of this new field of study.

Fog computing is a decentralized computing infrastructure in which computing resources are located between the data source and the cloud or any other data centers. The word "fog" refers to its cloud-like properties, which are closer to the "ground", using edge devices that carry out locally computation, storage and communication tasks. An additional benefit is that the processed data is likely to be needed by the same devices that generated the data. By processing locally rather than remotely, the latency between input and response are minimized. This technology has countless application domains such as industrial process control, smart cities, transportation, healthcare and agriculture. In this book, all the important topics in fog computing systems are covered, including energy efficiency, quality of service (QoS) issues, reliability and fault tolerance, load balancing, and scheduling. Special attention is devoted to emerging trends and industry needs associated with utilizing mobile edge computing, internet of things (IoT), resource estimation as well as virtualization in the fog computing environment. Current research on automation, robotics, data privacy, security and trust in fog computing is explored in depth. The book also discusses emerging techniques including deep learning, mobile edge computing, smart grid and intelligent transportation systems beyond theoretical and foundational concepts for smart applications including real time traffic surveillance, interoperability of fog computing architecture and smart homes and smart cities. Intended for an audience of researchers from academia and industry, as well as lecturers, engineers and advanced students, Enabling Technologies for Smart Fog Computing offers valuable insights for those with an interest in the field.

QUANTUM COMPUTING A helpful introduction to all aspects of quantum computing Quantum computing is a field combining quantum mechanics—the physical science of nature at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles—and information science. Where ordinary computing uses bits, logical values whose position can either be 0 or 1, quantum computing is built around qubits, a fundamental unit of quantum information which can exist in a superposition of both states. As quantum computers are able to complete certain kinds of functions more accurately and efficiently than computers built on classical binary logic, quantum computing is an emerging frontier which promises to revolutionize information science and its applications. This book provides a concise, accessible introduction to quantum computing. It begins by introducing the essentials of quantum mechanics that information and computer scientists require, before moving to detailed discussions of quantum computing in theory and practice. As quantum computing becomes an ever-greater part of the global information technology landscape, the knowledge in Quantum Computing will position readers to join a vital and highly marketable field of research and development. The book’s readers will also find: Detailed diagrams and illustrations throughoutA broadly applicable quantum algorithm that improves on the best-known classical algorithms for a wide range of problemsIn-depth discussion of essential topics including key distribution, cluster state quantum computing, superconducting qubits, and more Quantum Computing is perfect for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or the physical sciences, as well as for researchers and academics at the intersection of these fields who want a concise reference.
