In 1924, Lafcadio Hearn took his love of culture and myth and introduced us to the world of Japanese folklore with Kwaidan, his own collection of ghost stories. In this classic volume, you'll find tales that are hauntingly lyrical and complex.Japanese demons that eat flesh.Ghostly brides returning for their lovers.Lafcadio Hearn's ghost stories have become a fixture in the world of Japanese lore and superstition, offering us an eerie taste of what goes bump in the night.A blind performer plays for an audience of ghosts. A maiden reincarnates to search for her beloved. A nurse offers the ultimate sacrifice for her young charge. And a group of rokurokubi plot to end the life of a noble samurai. These classic tales celebrating Japanese culture are far different from our modern-day horror stories. Whether you're in the mood for phantoms, demons, ghouls, or ghosts, these otherworldly tales will haunt you long after you've finished reading.
NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS Books And Habits: From The Lectures Of Lafcadio Hearn Selected And Edited With An Introduction By John Erskine This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING

New Orleans in 1878 was the most exotic and cosmopolitan city in North America. An international port, with more than 200,000 inhabitants, it was open to French, Spanish, Mexican, South American, and West Indian cultural influences, and home to a thriving population descended from free African Americans. It was also a battleground in the fight against yellow fever (malaria) and in the political upheavals that followed the end of Reconstruction. The continued influx of Anglo-Americans and the renewed ascendancy of white supremacists threatened to overwhelm the local blend of languages, races, and cultures that enlivened the unique Creole character of the city. Writing for an English-language newspaper, Lafcadio Hearn presented the speech, charm, and humor of the Creolized natives on the other side of Canal Street, and illustrated his sketches with woodcut cartoons - the first of their kind in any Southern paper. These vignettes, published in the New Orleans Daily Item during 1878-1880, capture a traditionalist urban world and its colorful characters with a delicate and sympathetic understanding.
Anita Kreituse armus Jaapanisse juba nooruses. Jaapani kunsti ainulaadsus mõjutas kunstniku loomingut ja ta on karjääri jooksul loonud mitu Jaapani-teemalist seeriat. Seegi teos on suurepärane näide kunstniku erilisest suhtest Jaapaniga. Selles muinasjutus, mille tõi 1897. aastal Euroopasse jaapani kultuuri austaja Lafcadio Hearn, leidub kaks illustraatorile väga südamelähedast motiivi: Jaapan ja kassid.Anita Kreitusele on alati huvi pakkunud loodusega kooskõlas elamine ja isiksuse kujunemine. Iidsete Jaapani traditsioonide kohaselt on inimene osa loodusest. Raadiojaam Deutschlandfunk valis raamatu saksakeelse väljaande 2021. aasta oktoobris seitsme parima teose hulka.
