The books of Samuel and Kings were originally combined into a single volume known as "The Books of the Kingdom". This first study in a two-part series explores why these texts bear Samuel's name, even though David is the central figure.Lance begins by highlighting God's miraculous provision of Samuel during a critical time in Israel's history. He revealed His name to Moses, and much else.This same Moses went to Pharoah ten times with a message from the Lord and saw the Lord send the plagues and deliver His people out of slavery in Egypt. It was after all of this that Moses said to the Lord, "Show me, I pray Thee, Thy glory."What was Moses searching for?In the messages within, Lance considers this fact and expounds more of what truly is the glory of God.

In this study of the first five books of the Bible, Lance digs into the purpose of each book and doesn't shy away from discussing the difficulties that are hard to reconcile. As always, Lance shows how looking further into the Word of God unfolds valuable riches that point to what the Lord has done for us today, through what He did for us from the beginning of time. "Whilst it may be interesting and instructive to talk about the Bible ... we have only one end in view, and that is to study the Word itself." (page 9)

What is God's purpose in evangelism?It is clear that the Word of God commands us to preach the gospel to every creature, to go into the whole world and make disciples of all nations baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. So how do we do it?In "Evangelism" Lance opens the scriptures to reveal how the church can practically and effectively preach the gospel to the unsaved world, by revealing to them in scripture their need for a Saviour, the work of the Saviour, and how to receive the Saviour. He explains practical means of winning souls and how to follow-up with the newly saved to make disciples of the Lord Jesus. Evangelism is the way by which we gather the materials for the house of God. So faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Ephesians 2 says that we in the household of God are to be built up together for a habitation for God in the Spirit. What does this mean for you and I to be built up together with other believers? How should we contribute to the building work of Christ?All this is related to what God has desired from before times eternal. In other words, what God has always desired is a dwelling place in which He can express Himself, reveal Himself and manifest Himself, as it were, a place in which He can find His home.Thank the Lord this is His heart's desire-to be with us and let us know Him. How blessed we are. May the Lord find His home in our midst.
