Lewis Carroll muistetaan fantastisesta, kulttimaineeseen nousseesta teoksestaan Liisan seikkailut ihmemaassa (1865). Monialainen Carroll toimi myös valokuvaajana ja laati kunnianhimoisia tekstejä aina loruista matemaattiseen tutkimukseen asti. 1869 Carroll julkaisi ensimmäisen runoniteensä, mielikuvituksellisen Fantasmagoria ja muita runoja.
