This book provides an in-depth discussion of the significance of energy management in microgrids, focusing on three key areas: multi-energy cooperative management in single and multi-microgrid systems, and energy management issues related to the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) in microgrids. In Part 1, the book emphasizes the collaborative management of multiple energy sources, considering electric, gas, hydrogen, and renewable energy for a single microgrid system. In Part 2, it addresses the challenges in multi-microgrid systems and proposes a scheduling scheme for multi-energy cooperative management. Finally, Part 3 investigates the energy management challenges posed by the Internet of Vehicles in microgrids, and proposes a management scheme for electric vehicles (EVs) within microgrids using deep reinforcement learning. Overall, the algorithms discussed in this book are essential for addressing the energy management challenges in microgrids.

This is an open access book. This textbook contains about 200 fully solved problems in analytical and numerical methods for nonlinear osccillations. These comprise all the end-of-chapter problems in Ali H. Nayfeh and Dean T. Mook’s famous textbook Nonliear Oscillations. Mathematical software are adopted to make those solutions more accessible from a graphical point of view. This book can be adopted as a supplement to course work study for graduates or senior undergraduates. Since many exercise problems are adapted from scientific research papers, this book also has a good reference value for scientists and engineers who work in nonlinear vibration.

Since the popularisation of the Internet in the 1990s, the cyberspace has kept evolving. We have created various computer-mediated virtual environments, including social networks, video conferencing, virtual 3D worlds (e.g., VR Chat), augmented reality applications (e.g., Pokémon Go), and Non-Fungible Token Games (e.g., Upland). Such virtual environments, albeit non-perpetual and unconnected, have brought us various degrees of digital transformation. The term ‘metaverse’ has been coined to facilitate further digital transformation in every aspect of our physical lives. At the core of the metaverse stands the vision of an immersive Internet as a gigantic, unified, persistent, and shared realm. While the metaverse may seem futuristic, catalysed by emerging technologies such as Extended Reality, 5G, and Artificial Intelligence, the digital ‘big bang’ of our cyberspace is not far away. This monograph presents the first effort to offer a comprehensive framework that examines the latest metaverse development under the dimensions of state-of-the-art technologies and metaverse ecosystems, and illustrates the possibility of the digital ‘big bang’. It is essential to highlight that the metaverse encompasses diverse technologies and ecosystems, calling it an interdisciplinary and emerging field. Its primary objective is to provide users with satisfactory and interactive experiences. First, technologies are the enablers that drive the transition from the current Internet to the metaverse. Eight enabling technologies are rigorously examined - Extended Reality, User Interactivity (Human-Computer Interaction), Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Computer Vision, IoT and Robotics, Edge and Cloud computing, and Future Mobile Networks. In terms of applications, the metaverse ecosystem allows human users to live and play within a self-sustaining, persistent, and shared realm. Therefore, six user-centric factors are discussed – Avatar, Content Creation, Virtual Economy, Social Acceptability, Security and Privacy, and Trust and Accountability. Finally, a concrete research agenda is examined for developing the metaverse.

This system will enable readers to identify slope collapses before they happen and act to prevent economic and human losses. Readers will gain an understanding of existing slope monitoring technologies and their applications and advantages and disadvantages. They will also understand the need for early warning systems for rapid landslides that are caused by heavy rainfall. Because such landslides are increasing in frequency because of a climate-change-related increase in short-term but heavy rainfall, the authors first review the current context before explaining the importance of field monitoring for their continuing professional career development. The authors describe their technology, which is based on an inexpensive tiltmeter sensor and can detect landslides several hours prior to their onset. It is important that the authors present ample cases in which their technology was able to foresee imminent landslides. The increasing size and flexibility of wind turbine blades introduce significant aeroelastic effects, potentially causing aeroelastic instability such as edgewise instability and flutter. Current linear models, based on small deflection assumptions, are inadequate for modern large blades that experience significant geometric nonlinearities. Existing cross-sectional analysis models also face issues of inaccuracy and inefficiency.This book develops two key advancements: 1) a cross-sectional model using classical lamination theory and extended Bredt-Batho shear flow theory to accurately and efficiently determine composite blade properties; 2) a nonlinear aeroelastic model incorporating geometrically exact beam theory and a comprehensive load model.Validated through MATLAB and COMSOL Multiphysics, these models show excellent agreement with experimental data. Application to the WindPACT 1.5MW blade reveals reduced flapwise deflection and highlights the higher risk of edgewise instability, underscoring the importance of proper rotor speeds. This book offers vital insights and advanced models for developing reliable, efficient next-generation wind turbines.
