Jesus and the Gospel of Thomas

Ancient Christians wrote hundreds of gospels in the first four centuries, but the Church only accepted four of these for inclusion in the New Testament. Of those that were rejected none has received so much attention, and sparked so much controversy, as the Gospel of Thomas. Why was it repudiated by the orthodox Church Fathers to begin with, and why does it continue to fascinate, baffle, and polarize Christians around the world to this day, some 2,000 years later?Award-winning historian and Bible authority Lochlainn Seabrook answers these questions and more in his one-of-a-kind work, Jesus and the Gospel of Thomas: A Christian Mystic's View of Christianity's Most Important Ancient Text.Mr. Seabrook's study of Thomas' famous forbidden Gospel, actually a collection of 114 of Jesus' Sayings, covers its accidental discovery and mysterious history, along with current theories (both positive and negative) concerning its meaning, intentions, audience, and author. He devotes many pages, of course, to the figure of Jesus, the main focus of the book, with emphasis on how Thomas' depiction of the Master as a mortal but superlative human teacher, healer, and philosopher, corresponds exactly with the manner in which Jesus' earliest followers viewed Him. While probing these complex topics, the book remains accessible to both scholars and laymen alike, making it an ideal introduction to this absorbing and rewarding early Gnostic-Christian work-one heavily tinged with both Jewish and Pagan elements. And, according to the author, herein lies the probable reason for its universal suppression: The Gospel of Thomas' syncretism may reveal too much about both the real Jesus and the real origins of Christianity.Just as significant, Mr. Seabrook's captivating guide includes not only the complete original text of Thomas, but a second version with his own esoteric interpretations paired alongside, giving the modern reader insight into the possible inner meanings intended by its ancient mystical author. This small but information-packed volume includes illustrations, endnotes, a detailed index, and an in-depth bibliography. Jesus and the Gospel of Thomas: A Christian Mystic's View of Christianity's Most Important Ancient Text is available in paperback and hardcover. (All text copyright (c) Sea Raven Press)Award-winning historian Lochlainn Seabrook is the bestselling author and editor of over 100 books, including: Jesus and the Gospel of Q; The Greatest Jesus Mystery of All Time; Seabrook's Bible Dictionary of Traditional and Mystical Christian Doctrines; Christmas Before Christianity; Christ is All and in All; Jesus and the Law of Attraction; The Bible and the Law of Attraction; America's Three Constitutions; The Encyclopedia of the Battle of Franklin; Britannia Rules: Goddess-Worship in Ancient Anglo-Celtic Society; Abraham Lincoln Was a Liberal, Jefferson Davis Was a Conservative; Secrets of Celebrity Surnames; Authentic Victorian Ghost Stories; Manmade: Male Inventors Who Created the Modern World; North America's Amazing Mammals; The Concise Book of Owls; Your Soul Lives Forever; UFOs and Aliens; The Articles of Confederation Explained; Mysterious Invaders; Rocky Mountain Equines; Everything You Were Taught About the Civil War is Wrong, Ask a Southerner

A BOOK FOR TRUE LOVERS OF EQUINES AND THE AMERICAN WEST In Rocky Mountain Equines, wildlife-landscape photographer and nature writer Lochlainn Seabrook has assembled some 325 of his captivating photos of domestic horses, donkeys, and mules (as well as farm and ranch related images) from the American West, resulting in an eye-catching compendium of Big Sky-themed animal pictures that are both entrancing and educational. Covering the northern, central, and southern Rocky Mountain regions of Wyoming, Seabrook journeyed thousands of miles over a period of several years-through both town and wilderness and all four seasons-to photographically capture his equine subjects and their environments.Unlike many other coffee table/photography books, however, Rocky Mountain Equines is not a journalistic account of the author's travels, with lists of his cameras, lenses, and f-stop settings, nor does he include personal captions with his photos. Rather, this work is precisely what his subtitle states: A Photographic Collection of Horses, Donkeys, and Mules of the America West. Thus, this is intended to be a simple photo book dedicated to the three most popular, living, North American members of the Equidae family-one that allows the reader to enjoy Seabrook's equitatious compilation without the interference of wordy interpretations. Rounding out this colorful mammalian volume the author-photographer includes a descriptive introduction and a bibliography. If you are a hippophile, or merely an admirer of the Western U.S., you will enjoy this artistically crafted, highly visual celebration of all things horsey from Seabrook's American West Nature Series, specifically designed to beautify any home, office, or commercial location. Rocky Mountain Equines is available in paperback and hardcover. (All text copyright (c) Sea Raven Press)Award-winning historian Lochlainn Seabrook is the author and editor of over 100 books, including the international bestseller The Concise Book of Owls: A Guide to Nature's Most Mysterious Birds; as well as North America's Amazing Mammals: An Encyclopedia for the Whole Family; Rocky Mountain Bison: A Photographic Collection of Bison of the America West; and The Concise Book of Tigers: A Guide to Nature's Most Remarkable Cats.

During the War for the Constitution (1861-1865) the Southern armies could boast of dozens of dazzling and accomplished cavalry leaders, all of them both adored by their faithful troopers and the envy of the Yankee high command. One of those who was on everyone's list of favorites was celebrated Confederate General James Ewell Brown Stuart (better known by his initials, Jeb), a highly esteemed, swashbuckling officer from Virginia; a knightly Scottish-American daredevil who wore an ostentatious ostrich plume in his hat, rode into battle singing to banjo music, wrote humorous poems to his warhorses, was followed everywhere he went by adoring female admirers, and invented new and still globally discussed military strategies.Just who was this eccentric larger-than-life West Point graduate, still widely revered 160 years after his death? What is the full true story behind this former U.S. officer, devout Christian conservative, and young father of three, whose lighthearted attitude and love of extravagant haute couture provided continual amusement and good cheer to his war-weary soldiers? Who was this courageous American patriot and brilliant Southern military tactician who left the Union with his state for the righteous causes of freedom, constitutionalism, states' rights, and restricted government?Award-winning historian Lochlainn Seabrook answers all of these questions and more in his densely illustrated work, We Called Him Jeb: James Ewell Brown Stuart as He Was Seen by His Contemporaries, a comprehensive compilation of biographical studies, personal observations, and military recollections from those who knew him, fought with him, and worked with him during his short but meteoric life-which was tragically cut short at the Battle of Yellow Tavern in May 1864. Included are reminiscences and comments by Southerners, Northerners, European-Americans, African-Americans, men, women, teens, and foreigners. Adding interest and scope to his book, Seabrook supplies an introduction, over 300 source notes, an extensive index, a bibliography, and several informative appendices. We Called Him Jeb is available in paperback and hardcover. If you're a Christian, or if you're simply interested in the history of the Christian Church, you've probably wondered why the ancient authors of the New Testament left out any mention of Jesus' whereabouts during His teens and twenties, the all-important developmental years when adolescents transform into adults, get an education, begin work, get married, and have children. This entire piece of Jesus' life story has been omitted from the Bible, leaving us with an incomplete biography of the most beloved and well-known figure in world history. In his fascinating and informative book, The Greatest Jesus Mystery of All Time: Where Was Christ Between the Ages of 12 and 30? Christian Bible scholar and award-winning historian Lochlainn Seabrook provides an in-depth examination of this lost, perhaps even censored, historical span known as "The Missing Years of Jesus." As this 2,000 year old enigma unfolds the author discusses various theories on why the four Evangelists might have "ignored" this 18 year period, why the Church may not have wanted this information published, and more importantly, where Jesus might have been during this time.Mr. Seabrook brings to light vital clues and compelling evidence, from both biblical and extrabiblical material, showing that Jesus most likely spent many of his "Silent Years" in Central Asia, where to this day-from Pakistan to China, from India to Mongolia- there is a widespread traditional belief that Christ traveled across the region in his teens and twenties, studying and teaching under various Buddhist, Hindu, and Tibetan spiritual masters. To support these theories Mr. Seabrook includes the complete transcript of an ancient Buddhist manuscript purported to have been written in the years following Jesus' death, which details the Master's time in such countries as India, Nepal, and Tibet. The author, a comparative religionist, does not claim to have irrefutable proof, but rather presents his findings clearly and objectively, allowing the reader to decide. Also included is an introduction, source notes, index, and an extensive bibliography, making this a must-read for all serious students of Jesus, Christianity, and history. The Greatest Jesus Mystery of All Time is available in paperback and hardcover. In Your Soul Lives Forever Bible scholar and Christian mystic, award-winning historian Lochlainn Seabrook, has hand-picked nearly 400 verified Victorian accounts which show beyond doubt that our souls are immortal. Divided into 10 handy categorized chapters, his selections include true-to-life accounts of ghosts (human and animal), ESP, precognitive dreams, phantasms, mental healing, unknown forces, omens, cryptids, spectral voices, poltergeists, haunted houses, visions, apparitions, strange powers, fairies, and more, all clearly indicating that there are realities not currently recognized by conventional science and its dogmatic atheistic proponents. One of these forms the cornerstone of Col. Seabrook's work: the extra spatial dimension variously referred to around the world as Heaven, the Kingdom of God, the Hereafter, the Great Beyond, Paradise, Valhalla, Nirvana, Shamayim, the Promised Land, Ame, the Better Country, the New Jerusalem, Garden of Eden, Arcadia, the Next World, Shangri-La, Svarga, Elysian Fields, Camelot, Zion, Avalon, Islands of the Blessed, Lotusland, Cockaigne, Elysium, Utopia, and the Great Unknown; in other words, the Afterlife.Your Soul Lives Forever, artistically illustrated by the author-editor with numerous images from the 1800s, is not only fascinating to read, but it is both inspirational and educational, as well as solace for those who have lost loved ones - including pets. A deeply researched scientific work that touches on hope, faith, and love through the lenses of religion and the paranormal, both the skeptic and the believer will find this eschatological volume of immense value in humanity's ongoing quest to understand life beyond the grave. As Col. Seabrook points out in his introduction, consciousness does not end with what we call "death," but continues on in what can only be described as an eternal journey of growth, exultation, and adventure. The many authenticated entries in this work, written primarily by 19th-Century British Christians, provide compelling evidence of an afterworld for all those with an inquiring mind. Besides an illuminating introduction, the author-editor also supplies source notes, an index, a bibliography, and several appendices. On July 29, 1968, six distinguished scientists, including J. Allen Hynek, Carl Sagan, and James E. McDonald, met before the Committee on Science and Astronautics, in the House of Representatives at Washington, D.C. In addition, six scientists of note, including Stanton T. Friedman and Robert L. Hall, were invited to submit prepared statements to the committee to be entered into the Congressional record. This meeting of prestigious scientific-minded individuals, held under the moniker, "Symposium on Unidentified Flying Objects," ran for an entire day and included numerous question-and-answer periods, along with several free discussions amongst the participants, who ranged from ardent true believers, to lukewarm UFO "agnostics," to hostile non-believers.Many will assume that the information discussed at this 56 year old conference is now thoroughly out of date. But as the award-winning editor, UFO researcher, UFO eyewitness, and UFO author Lochlainn Seabrook shows in his in-depth book Mysterious Invaders, the opposite is true. Due to entrenched scientific skepticism and fear of public ridicule, almost no advancement in our knowledge of UFOs has occurred since 1968 This makes this unique, illustrated book edition of the symposium-filled with both vital and fascinating material on what our 20th-Century scientists called "the UFO Problem"-an all-important work on early UAP research that every student of astronomy and ufology will want in their collection.Seabrook includes a helpful introduction, source notes, a comprehensive index, an all-inclusive bibliography, and detailed appendices. Pick up your copy and learn the truth about "flying saucers" from those who scientifically studied them during the 1950s and 1960s and chronicled their shocking findings in this still highly relevant material. The most famous and important meeting of the War for the Constitution (the American "Civil War") took place in Virginia aboard the U.S. steamer River Queen on February 3, 1865. And yet it receives barely a mention in our mainstream history books, except to say that "it was a futile effort that achieved nothing."Known as the Hampton Roads Conference (named after its location at the famous ship anchorage in southeastern Virginia), in attendance on one side of the table were Confederate States Vice President Alexander H. Stephens, Confederate Assistant Secretary of War John A. Campbell, and Confederate Senator Robert M. T. Hunter; and on the other side, United States President Abraham Lincoln and United States Secretary of State William H. Seward.According to conventional history, the meeting opened with a "frank, honest, and kind-hearted Lincoln" offering generous promises to the "erring South," including $400,000,000 in compensation for her slaves upon emancipation - if only the seceded states would return to the Union, to "our one common country." The Confederate commissioners, however, viewed the meeting as a negotiation between "our two countries," demanding that the North recognize the constitutionally established independence of the Southern states. Lincoln refused to budge, in return demanding the C.S.A.'s complete surrender to the "national authority" of the U.S.A.Four hours later the meeting adjourned with both parties at a stalemate. Conventional sources tell us that Lincoln had bent over backwards to accommodate the South, and that the conference only failed due to the intractable and defiant stubbornness of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, who placed political theory (regarding secession) above the lives of C.S. and U.S. soldiers. Is any of this true? Absolutely not, and award-winning historian Lochlainn Seabrook's delightfully edifying book The Hampton Roads Conference: The Southern View proves it. Packed with 32 essays, articles, and commentaries written by both Victorian men and women, Southerners and Northerners, this illustrated, information-dense compendium of facts and figures destroys the many mainstream myths surrounding the conference, demonstrating once and for all the vital importance of this, the sixth and final meeting in which the two opposing sides would meet face-to-face. Seabrook includes a descriptive introduction, complete source notes, a detailed index, a comprehensive bibliography, and helpful appendices.
