Book II begins with tensions running high for our favorite heights who are struggling to hold onto what they have unwittingly found together, and still working on accepting the possibility of a shared future. That's pretty hard at the moment though, since Ethan's gone. Out there somewhere fighting the good fight, for those who can't yet fight for themselves. Of course that's not something that Simone would argue with, even if she could. So she does the only thing left and buries herself in her work as she anxiously prepares to complete one of the biggest jobs of her life It's bittersweet though, with her daughter also busy at camp full time, she's predominately consumed by worries of how she will stay busy once it's done As usual, the answer will surprise her.One job ends and another thankfully begins. Her patience run short, but her coping skills grudgingly improve as life goes on around her. Simone even meets a few more Kent's while spending extra time on the farm and that helps. She finds solace in feeling like part of his family, as she attempts to recreate her own. Meanwhile she still has to find a way to explain the possibility of Liliana's own heightening to Ben before it's too late and it's fully upon them. She also needs to somehow stay on good terms with him afterwards. That promised to be a lot trickier...From the soaring pines along the Merrimack River, to the regal properties from eras past hidden high on wooded hills, Simone explores her new hometown and learns even more about the people and places that make it so unique and so very special. Along the way she also learns more than she ever expected to about herself. That has her wondering, can we all really be our true self, and still be happy?

Even at her young age, Simone has already known for some time that life can occasionally be hard, thanks to her unusual "situation." But a painful divorce and the heart wrenching decision to temporarily give up custody of her young daughter have introduced her to a whole new level of "hard." She knows that her unique attributes have caused her loved ones enough trouble and she yearns just to get away from it all for a while. She's sure that her luck is finally changing when she finds the perfect place to do just that in the small, picturesque town of Pinegrove, MA. However, she soon finds more than she bargained for already residing in her little slice of paradise, leaving her with questions she's not sure she wants answered.Like who is the unassuming but surprisingly talented, local musician exactly? Why does his music so easily give her the peace that she seeks? Is her condition really as unique as she has spent her life thinking it is? Is it worth the risks she would have to take to find out? Suddenly Simone is caught up in the mystery of this little town that had at first promised such serenity. Now she must decide what she wants most, blissful ignorance or the terrifying truth. Because simply ignoring it all is no longer an option. Not once it becomes clear that there are other people who need her help. The only thing she's sure of, is that it's not just her life at stake anymore.

What if the house you are about to enter was built with the confessed purpose of seducing you, of creating various sensations destined to touch your soul and make you reflect on who you are? Could architecture have such power? This was the assumption of generations of architects at the beginning of modernity.Exploring the role of theatre and fiction in defining character in architecture, Louise Pelletier examines how architecture developed to express political and social intent. Applying this to the modern day, Pelletier considers how architects can learn from these eighteenth century attitudes in order to restore architecture's communicative dimension.Through an in-depth and interdisciplinary analysis of the beginning of modernity, Louise Pelletier encourages today's architects to consider the political and linguistic implications of their tools. Combining theory, historical studies and research, Architecture in Words will provoke thought and enrich the work of any architect.

Anamorphosis has raised crucial questions for architectural representation since the seventh century when epistemological conditions for modern thought and architecture were first articulated. By manipulating the theory of perspective, anamorphosis revealed potential discontinuity between an object present to perception and its visual appearance, complicating the relationship between building and drawing, and between design and construction. This annotated bibliography includes all known existing sources on anamorphosis, starting with Leonardo da Vinci's Notebooks and culminating with works of the twentieth-century Avant-Garde, such as Marcel Duchamp. The book makes special reference to questions about architectural representation, such as synthetic space as a possible alternative understanding of the relationship between architectural drawing and building, and provides extensive bibliographic descriptions of the primary sources for first editions and important subsequent editions or translations, including physical descriptions of the books and graphic materials.
Architecture, Ethics, and Technology

Architecture, Ethics, and Technology

An enlightened discussion of all relevant aspects of architecture shows the necessity for revision of commonly held assumptions about the nature of architectural history, theory, representation, and ideation; the production of buildings in the postindustrial city; and professional ethics. These topics provide the basis for the fourteen interdisciplinary papers presented here. The introductory section includes an examination of the epistemological origins of technology in the early modern European context and two alternative visions of ethics and its potential relevance for architecture. The second part presents four perspectives on important questions about how we represent buildings and the ethical values involved in that representation. "Ethics and Poetics in the Context of Technological Production" considers the role of philosophical ethics (i.e., a rational structure of categories in architectural practice) and the possibility, and desirability, of incorporating ethical reflections into the generation of architectural form. "The Architectural Uses of History and Narrative in a Technocratic World" explores alternatives for articulating an ethical attitude in forms of discourse other than philosophy and science. These papers were originally presented at the bilingual symposium "Architecture, Ethics, and Technology" held at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal in 1991.
