Uta Reinhardt’s pictorial creations invite a wide range of interpretations. Human and animal chimeras encounter each other as in an alliance and create their own unique world. The scenic compositions seduce us with their lively colours and the light rec orded with dynamic brushstrokes. Within a comparatively short space of time, Uta Reinhardt (*1966 in Bielefeld) has created a world in which real motifs are raised with astounding ease into the realms of the secret, and abstract colour worlds intensify an d begin to speak. Her pictures fascinate us in the process not only as a result of the scenic motifs but also for the complexity of the artistic compositions. On the occasion of the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States, this monograph provid es an insight into the paintings and drawings of Uta Reinhardt and reproduces in large - format illustrations not only her first works but also the most recent pictures.

This volume is dedicated to the interrelation between temporality and representation. It presumes that time cannot be conceived of as an abstract chronometric order, but that it is referring to materiality, being measured, represented, expressed, recognized, experienced and evaluated, and therefore is always closely related to cultural contexts of perception and evaluation. The contributions from various disciplines are dedicated to the present and its plural conditions and meanings. They provide insights into the state of research with special emphasis on the global present as well as on art and aesthetics from the 18th century until today. The anthology includes contributions by Mieke Bal, Stefan Binder, Maximilian Bergengruen, Iris Därmann, Gabriele Genge, Boris Roman Gibhardt, Boris Groys, Maria Muhle, Johannes F. Lehmann, Nkiru Nzegwu, Francesca Raimondi, Christine Ross, Ludger Schwarte, Angela Stercken, Samuel Strehle, Timm Trausch, Patrick Stoffel, and Christina Wessely.

Essays consider the temporality and the aesthetics of "standstill.""Standstill" could be the name for the kind of experience that is the hiatus between social expectations and real possibilities of agency. Standstill may also be the name of an aesthetic strategy to instill a nonlinear time of resistance and experience into the political protocol of progress. Finally, standstill can be the name for the temporal fissure in the midst of the subject, for the lapse between the subject of the enunciation and the subject of a statement, the limit that is the border between the inside and the outside. It can be the name for the mode of potentiality, for the moment of gesture, or, with Walter Benjamin, the medium of the dialectical image. The essays of this book traverse these dimensions of standstill as an in-between of time.ContributorsGeorges Didi-Huberman, Reinhold G rling, Barbara Gronau, Adrian Heathfield, Erika Fischer-Lichte, Oliver Marchart, Rita McBride, Christoph Menke, Aernout Mik, Misha Kavka, David Lapoujade, Mirjam Lewandowsky, Via Lewandowsky, Peter Osborne, Christine Ross, Marcel Odenbach, Jacques Ranci re, Ludger Schwarte, Martin Seel
