The way we act sends messages about our feelings and emotions. This is known as body language. No where is controlling more important than in job interviews where we are being closely examined to see whether we are a good candidate for a job. This book describes body language and how to control it in interview situations.
The Common Swift is an aerial specialist rarely coming to the ground. This means they have been little studied. This book relates my time spent studying these special birds at a nesting colony where I had unique access.
Mark Walker is a teller of stories, a poet, writer and photographer. His first book, "Swahili Chronicles", describes a journey of 5,000 kilometers taken through Tanzania exclusively using public transport. Told through diary entries, poems and photographs, Mark shares the characters he encounters and the many chance incidents that weave a fantastic tale - sometimes gritty, sometimes warm and uplifting, but always endearing.

A central tenet at meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) and Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.) is that anyone can pretty much say anything when they share without fear of interruption or "crosstalk." This is a good thing, but it can lead to confusion after the fact. This book dissects and explains the sayings often repeated at these meetings-slogans-while emphasizing that these slogans by themselves don't solve anything: We must work hard every day to be successful.And-although this sometimes seems hard to fathom to those in early recovery-the nature of this work can change: It is anything but drudgery. The despair of active addiction fades into the background, and we are blessed with a joyous, busy, and full life.

For the first time in English, Mark Walker presents a verse translation of the twelfth-century epic poem by Geoffrey of Monmouth, the originator of many of the Arthurian legends familiar to us today. Here is the original Merlin - a mysterious and mad character inspired by ancient Welsh legends. But he is also a king, a prophet, and a modern Renaissance man. This brand-new translation casts Geoffrey's Latin into accessible English hexameter verse, giving readers a feel for the rhythms of the original. The extensive introduction sets the poem in the context of Geoffrey's life and writings, while each chapter opens with helpful background material. Turn back the pages of time and discover the mythical, magical world of the original Merlin.

During the first part of the twentieth century, German science led the world. The most important scientific institution in Germany was the Kaiser Wilhelm Society, including institutes devoted to different fields of scientific research. These researchers were not burdened by teaching obligations and enjoyed excellent financial and material support. When the National Socialists came to power in Germany, all of German society, including science, was affected. The picture that previously dominated our understanding of science under National Socialism from the end of the Second World War to the recent past - a picture of leading Nazis ignorant and unappreciative of modern science and of scientists struggling to resist the Nazis - needs to be revised. This book surveys the history of Kaiser Wilhelm Institutes under Hitler, illustrating definitively the cooperation, if not collaboration, between scientists and National Socialists in order to further the goals of autarky, racial hygiene, war, and genocide.
Everyone remembers the Queen’s ‘Annus Horribilis’, but what do 'quid pro quo' and 'habeas corpus' mean? Why do plants have Latin names? Why do families, towns, countries and even football teams have Latin mottoes? What do the Latin epitaphs in churches say? What are the words of Mozart's 'Requiem'? These are just a few of the topics covered in this book. As Mark Walker makes clear, present-day English is still steeped in its Roman and Latin origins. As a result English still has many thousands of Latin words in everyday use. Caveat emptor!
Beginning with what the Romans themselves had to say about far-flung Britain, "Britannica Latina" presents Latin selections from British writers covering a period of 2000 years in the same user-friendly format as "Annus Horribilis" and "Annus Mirabilis". This fascinating miscellany of Anglo-Latin includes tales of King Arthur from the histories by Nennius and Geoffrey of Monmouth: the wizardry of Merlin from Geoffrey of Monmouth's Vita Merlini; the martyrdom of St Alban as told by the Venerable Bede; extracts from Domesday Book and Magna Carta; and, the Laws of Motion explained by Isaac Newton in his Principia Mathematica. Each chapter includes historical and biographical background information and informative grammatical notes, making translation fun for all Latinists. Full English translations are given at the back of the book. It's time for British Latinists to reclaim their heritage.
