Creepy and wonderful, they're watching us-Malissa Brink / Didn't want it to end-Randy Grub Dominic Moretti was dealing with a lot of issues. Life hadn't been easy since returning home from Afghanistan. His marriage was on the rocks, his sports betting was out of control, and he was hanging out with the wrong cronies in Manhattan's Little Italy-just another war hero who couldn't piece his life back together in the real world. Also, there was that strange, annoying feeling that he was being watched . . .Humankind was indeed being evaluated, by the highly advanced Khantam Lom, an alien species in control of much of the galaxy. Did this selfish, war-mongering, human race warrant protection from the soon-to-be-invading Wikk Empire? An insectile species with insatiable appetites, the Wikk were hell-bent on subjugating Earth as one of their many farming settlements. So the adventure begins. Dominic inadvertently saves the life of a Khantam Lom Observer, and everything changes. Humankind has but one-seeming impossible-shot at avoiding a catastrophic fate. Dominic won't be able to do it alone, but will the ragtag team he's assembled be enough? Will any of them survive long enough to make a difference? Reviews: Good and Fun BookThe storyline had plenty of action and adventure. A riveting and fun space opera and some scifi romance. Lots and lots of surprises with twists and turns around every corner. Characters were great and woven well into the action. Mark Wayne McGinnis gives the reader some new ideas to consider as the science fiction adventure unfolded. Enjoy - Charles C. Grimes Just wonderful One of the best-written and captivating military romance scifi novels I have read in a long time. Once I opened the cover I could not put The Hidden Ship down until I finished it. No slow spots, this book keeps you going from the beginning to the very last page. Highly recommenced this book Looking forward to reading other works by Mark Wayne McGinnis. Much thanks sir - JC3Honolulu Bought it to waste some time and ended up being ensnared by the story. This was really a pretty good read. I bought it just to read while killing time before an appointment. I read right up until the time I had the appointment, then rushed back home to finish it. I'll look for more of the author's work.- Bud Fast-paced fun read Guardian Ship is a fun entertaining military space opera - just a good old-fashioned adventure scifi book. With the fate of Humanity on the line, these homegrown likable characters join together to take on alien occupiers against all odds. The excellent character development and a very descriptive plot line bring this story to life. I felt like I was in the fight myself - Eric in AZ An enjoyable read. This is the first novel I've come across by Mark Wayne Mcginnis. I very much enjoyed this one, a wonderful scifi space opera, with a side of sy fi romance thrown in just to make things interesting. The writing itself (voice) is great. The story made sense. The characters were likable. I found myself sneaking time over lunch to read it, something I rarely ever do. I'll look forward to checking out more of Mark's work.- Wally Lafferty Awesome Book Just got through reading The Star Watch series and The Hidden Ship and I must say they was awesome. The story was great, as were the characters. The book had lots of action and adventure, the science fiction was very believable and Guardian Ship has well-developed characters. The alien alliance was certainly interesting. All around a very good read..Hopefully there will be some kind of follow-up book.Thank You - Amazon Customer
Brian Polk had been stateside for barely a year after leaving the Air Force when the unthinkable happened. It was lucky he left the service when he did, otherwise, he'd be dead right now-military installations worldwide had been the first targets hit. It was an interstellar invasion-the beginning of the end of known civilization. First, the military installations and the largest cities across the globe were turned to rubble. Tens of millions were lost during that horrific reign of terror. Government centers and law enforcement resources were next. Finally, the aliens eliminated humanity's means to electronically communicate with each other. The Earupitan's technology and weaponry was so remarkable, so advanced, humanity never had a chance. The aliens now walk brazenly among humans-their reptilian eyes always watchful, always scrutinizing. No one is safe, and almost everyone who gets taken never sees the light of day again. Humanity now lives in fear-freedom is a thing of the past. And then there are those who have befriended the enemy . . . But not Captain Brian Polk. He's far more interested in taking back a little of what was stolen. When he acquires some of the alien technology, he finally has hope of making some small difference. He might even be able to pull off the impossible-that or die trying. Reviews: The perfect read for my travelsI had hours of flights and layovers and The Hidden Ship kept me highly entertained during my travels. The characters are great and the tension never lets up. This was similar to the Scrapyard series Mark wrote, which I also loved. I highly recommend this scifi action adventure book. if you enjoy a fun sci-fi space opera, you'll love this one.- Stuart Church Good, solid science fiction adventureFirst, this is a complete sci-fi space adventure story in one book. So satisfying. I would not have bought it if it was part of a series. This is not just another humans vs. aliens tale. There are twists that make it stand out from the common. Unfortunately, I can't be more specific without spoiling your discoveries as you read. I was always entertained. There's never a slow spot. If the author has any more standalone novels, I'll buy them.- Henry Kline Good classic science fiction like the mastersScience fiction, adventure, action, fun scifi, a hero, villains, more action, sex, betrayal, good guys, underdogs, arrogant alien buttheads all present and accounted for - Amazon Customer Wild, action-packed science fiction adventureIn the beginning, it was a bit implausible, kind of a cross between an EMP disaster theme and BSG New Caprica, then it began to morph into a version of Independence Day. However, the author kept the story moving, the dialogue was believable and crisp, the action scenes were a bit over the top - but aren't they all in these days of CGI?. I haven't read his books before although I've had the Junkyard Ship series in my reading list for a while, this was a good test of how well I would like his writing style and I can clearly say he passed with flying colors For the grammar police, no obvious errors or context issues, the words flowed smoothly and he kept the story moving along. It reads as a stand-alone book but there are possibilities for future expansion.- Ann Engel Got better and better...Love Mark Wayne McGinnis- his writing is the best in the fun sci-fi world. Period. Always a good story and plot but it's most often the wonderful way he portrays his characters that I love most. They always are genuine, good and evil. You hate the bad guys more and more just as you really root for the good guys. This was a fun, more local to Earth, than space tale of heroism and friendships across species that was a kick in the pants adventure that seemed to get better and better as the story progressed. Thanks for a great time. Highly recommended.- Belleraphon

Ship Wrecked II - - My favorite new SciFi series from my favorite SciFi author " Donna Hollis, Scarsdale, NYIt was a hard sell, but Cameron had convinced Heather to return to the exoplanet of Sang-Morang-where he hoped they could experience the wonder of this majestic corner of the universe, together. The spacecraft Primion was flight-ready and the immense creature-the Minal Loth-seemed content to follow him wherever he went. And he still had the old Ford pickup truck, gassed up, and ready to explore more of that alien landscape. But Cameron's well-intentioned plan turns out to be amongst his very worst. No sooner has the Primion set down on Sang-Morang, than they are ruthlessly attacked. Heather is abducted. The Loth is gone. The Primion destroyed. Cameron, once again, is alone and shipwrecked. While Cameron is somewhat accustomed to surviving alone, being self-reliant-Heather has little concept of such things. Reviews: Good young adult adventure space storyLots of action with plenty of surprises woven in. Characters are super and really part of the action. Grimes Great syfy alien world adventure story....read it and you'll be drawn in Mark Wayne McGinnis is an excellent storyteller. He offers great character development and marvelous settings Every time I pick up one of his books, it's hard to put it down. Treat yourself to a great escape by reading any of his books.- Circuits Ship Wrecked II / Great bookAnother great book by MWM. I always enjoy his stories. A wicked snowstorm had blown in from the north and the roads were a mess. Split from his one-time girlfriend, there was now nothing holding Cameron Decker here in this little backwater mountain town. Time to get back to college, back to Stanford. Seeing a guy knee-deep in slush at the side of the road, he pulled to the curb and waved him over. The stranger smacked his head getting in-knocked his watch cap askew. Only then did Cameron notice-notice that the stranger couldn't possibly be human. Along with his rust-bucket of a pickup truck, Cameron is soon heading deep into space aboard an interstellar spacecraft. Crashlanding onto an alien world, he'll have to contend with a murderous droid and a slew of strange alien life forms. But it is the forty-five-foot tall beast-a Minal Loth-that will impact his life the most. Marooned, somehow, Cameron must survive long enough to find a way to return home-back to that little mountain town, and the girl, whom he should never have left in the first place. Reviews: Thrilling Scifi Story I have read many of Mr. McGinnis' books and I found this one to be one of his best. It grabs you and does not let go. I couldn't put it down. When I was reading it, it was the first thing that I picked up in the morning, and I've read it many times. I would recommend it to anyone who likes exciting, fun science fiction. I do hope the story continues. Well worth the money, and highly recommended -Dilligaf Fantastic adventure science fiction Helping a lone man walking along a road in a winter storm, Cam was thrust into the greatest adventure he could imagine. Barely introduced to the spaceship before his new friend dies by the tentacles of a ravenous beast that escapes onto Earth. And the ship takes off, leaving Cam at the mercy of a damaged droid. The droid manages to crash land on a strange planet. Another of those beasts, a Loth, escapes the ship. Then the droid feels threatened by Cam and kicks him out onto the dangerous planet. Most of the indigenous animals see Cam as lunch. But the Loth imprints on Cam and protects him. Then the local "apes," rather than being the killers he'd been told, take a shine to him, one female in particular. Now Cam has an army that eventually takes the ship back and gets rid of the droid. But the Loth left on Earth has not only been eating people but also breeding. As only the US government can do, they drop a nuke on the town, which of course does not kill the beast. Cam tries to get his Loth to convince the other to come aboard and vacate Earth. Then Cam hears from his girlfriend... Mr. McGinnis, I would like more if you feel like revisiting this story.-Nancy W. Mark McGinnis never disappoints I really love Mark McGinnis' work, ever since Scrapyard Ship. While not overly complex or convoluted, it delivers the goods without a lot of over- embellishment. If you're looking for the meaning of life, this is probably not for you, but if you're into fun SciFi with cool alien creatures, amazing technology, and leading characters that you can bond with, then read on. I've read his entire Scrapyard Ship series and this one follows a similar model (spacecraft on present-day Earth and interesting character who gets involved with it). The main space monster is awe-inspiring, but there's a significant twist. I also like that the book stands alone and while there probably will be a sequel, you're not left hanging. It has an ending. I'm going to get my granddaughter to see if she can do a drawing of the creature based on Mark's description. That could be fun.-Myles Marcovitch Ship Wrecked / Another great sci-fi book This will always be one of my favorites. Great story and very well written. I read it in one sitting not being able to put it down I would love another follow-up if at all possible. Keep up the great work -GMZ
"Cool Science Fiction -- A vivid world of intrigue and violence." The year is 2117. In the farthest reaches of Earth's territorial space a spree of depraved murders have local cattle ranchers fearing for their families. A fear, they will soon discover, that is more than justified. Apparently, John Gallic's reputation proceeded his arrival to the fringe-world of Muleshoe. A reputation suggesting he be given a wide berth. As the new Territory Abettor, commonly referred to as a Frontier Marshal, Gallic would be there for the long haul. Formally titled Detective Chief Inspector of the Spatial Colonial Police-District 22-he'd investigated only the highest profile murders and was a rising star within the department. But that life was in the past. Gallic now provided an assortment of backwater law enforcement services to the burgeoning deep-space frontier territories. Sure, there was an occasional smalltime crime to investigate, but more often than not Gallic spent his days-commissioned by the big Interstellar banks-repossessing billionaire ranchers' high-priced spacecraft. A glorified repo man. He was fine with that. It gave him spare time to do the one thing more important than anything else-find the murderer of his wife and child. Piloting his voluminous spacecraft, the Hound, Gallic arrives on Muleshoe expecting his latest assignment to be no different than the hundred other repo jobs he's performed. Typically, no one gets in his way. Then a Vid-Message call comes in from D-22-the Hammer and Nails Killer is at it again. Right there within the frontier worlds. Soon, Gallic would be chasing the very same cunning serial killer who, mercilessly, stole his once-perfect life away from him. The line between prey and predator becomes blurred and the Galaxy Man will have no problem sacrificing himself to kill a killer. Reviews: What a wonderful book. A true exploration of The Fringe between Space Opera and Western.I do love his (Mark Wayne McGinnis) books. This one was unique in that it was kind of a cross between Gunsmoke Paladin and Have Gun Will Travel or no I'm sorry Wanted Dead or Alive I had visions of Steve McQueen and the sheriff in Gunsmoke all-in-one coupled with a touch of John Wayne. What a wonderful exploration of Space Opera as an American form of literature. While unique in its approach the pacing and character development was delightful. Very much a joy to see someone unify the classic American Western with the classic American Space Opera.- Kindle Customer Outer Space Crime Thriller Mystery? Yeah... and it workedLove Mark Wayne McGinnis books I've read 10 or so, including Gun Sip, Guardian Ship, and The Hidden Ship. This new series is completely different and I like the slow character development, variable pace, and multiple and at times crazy storylines. Cool read
The Simpleton QuestIn book two of The Simpleton trilogy, the story of Cuddy Perkins continues. He's no longer the same mocked, often tormented, Woodbury, Tennessee village idiot. In fact, he's quite brilliant, trading his simple, country town existence for a life spent amongst the stars-voyaging on the spacecraft Evermore. Cuddy's life mission? Help an alien race, called the Pashier, and the being called Tow---the alien who'd changed his life so dramatically only weeks before. Supported by his brother, Kyle-also Tony and Brian, and his childhood best friend, Jackie-the team of five must find a way to combat the vicious Howsh before Primara is annihilated. Undertaking one last-ditch mission, the team must uncover certain hidden truths concerning both the Pashier and the Howsh-two races far more connected than previously known. The answers they seek can only be found in the distant past-in the ancient vaults of Calirah. To venture there, they will go up against vile savage beasts, treachery, and a fleet of alien warships that might be unstoppable. Not everyone in the group will survive. Emotionally and physically spent, en route to their next Interstellar destination, someone new will need their help-someone both vulnerable and powerful. Reviews: Love MWM's BooksI love all of Mark's books... Scrapyard Ship, Star Watch, Ship Wrecked, Gun Ship, Guardian Ship, Boy Gone, and his latest, The USS Hamilton series. With the Simpleton and The Simpleton Quest, Mark has taken a slight detour from space battles, and pure hard military science fiction with navy seals and hardcore aliens. In these Simpleton books, Mark shows a more tender side. The books are still full of conflict and tension and entertainment. I loved these books as much as his previous ones. It takes a talented author to write a broad spectrum of situations in closely related genres.- KP The Simpleton Quest / Sequel to The Simpleton by Mark Wayne McGinnis / Aliens good and bad...In The Simpleton and The Simpleton Quest, Mark Wayne McGinnis continues his parade of quirky characters, clever storylines, and non-stop action that he first demonstrated in The Scrapyard Ship series. In the Simpleton series (the third book pending?) we have a new band of misfit humans, aliens good and bad, sentient robots, and advanced technology expertly woven into a compelling story that every sci-fi fan will enjoy. Mr. McGinnis books are just plain fun to read. If you liked any of his prior novels, you will love this one.- Chuck S Mark knock another one out of this world a great read.Mark, you did it again hooked on this series, love the crew on this voyage to save two race's though at war with one another find out they need one another to survive.- Sailmike New to meSomehow I missed the first book in this series but I was able to understand what had gone on in the past Mark did a good job updating us. Since I read and forget so much I likely would have needed it anyway A nice quick read on a par with his other work and I look forward to hearing more from these characters.- Trudi Great writing, great story..I was so glad to see this storyline continue..and to see the characters develop.. Great writing, great story..- Bob Wilson A fun and entertaining sci-fi space opera with interesting aliens. The author is brilliant. His characters, young adult to adult are multi-=dimensional and the aliens are cool and interesting. There is conflict like the Scrapyard Ship box set books, but it's not about lots of space battles, and hard-core science fiction technology, it's simple and effective. The characters kept me interested in the story.- SH
Better buckle up ... the Scrapyard Ship gang is back for a new interstellar romp ... Over the past year, things have been relatively peaceful within the Planetary Alliance. Captain Jason Reynolds is looking forward to a fishing trip in the deep wilderness on Alantia Dastile with Michael, his six-year-old son. His wife, Dira, and his father, the Fleet Omni, are away on a diplomatic mission to the Sommis of Adriark. It's the perfect time for an interstellar getaway. Or is it?Jason just needs to check on one thing first-a flurry of mechanical issues recently plaguing the Parcical, the Omni's Rogue Class spacecraft-something about a Zoo habitat using increasing amounts of the vessel's memory, that and a flurry of malfunctions with onboard Caldurian technologies.Caught off guard, it's soon discovered; a different kind of war is coming. The Alliance is not prepared. The U.S. Fleet is not prepared. A new enemy rears it's ugly head and quickly becomes the dominant force within the sector. For those who survive the coming rampage - the coming war - everything will change. The Scrapyard Ship gang unites one more time for this action-packed adventure. Together, they will endeavor to give the Planetary Alliance a fighting chance against almost certain devastation that's heading toward the Sol system. Reviews: I choose this book because it sounded like a fun and entertaining military scifi read. Then, I became hooked on the characters. Each and everyone one of them. I love Ricket, he is one small nerd of all nerds. And, of course, Captain Jason Reynolds is awesome. You will never be bored reading any one of the series. I highly recommend you read all of his (Mark Wayne McGinnis) books: Scrapyard Ship, Star Watch, Ship Wrecked Stranded on an Alien World, Boy Gone, Gun Ship, Guardian Ship, The Hidden Ship, USS Hamilton series, and the USS Jefferson.- Libby Good ReadingThis military space opera Syfy adventure continues. Super characters are really woven into the storylines, also some new ones are included. Lots of surprises and action, this author keeps you guessing and coming back for more. Look forward to the next installment with this crew of folks who now are like friends.- Charles C. Grimes Amazing what can come from a Scrapyard I have read all the books in this series so far, and it is one of my all-time favorites Mark Wayne McGinnis is a top-notch Sci-fi Space Opera writer and his books attest to that fact. Can never seem to put one of his books down once I've started reading. I would like to see 50 more books in this series, I would gladly purchase every one - Richard Meinhardt Continues and expands the Scrapyard Ship series tale of adventure and valorThis book brings a new depth to the characters I have followed through the other books in the Scrapyard Ship series and introduces some new ones that continue to flesh out the story.- PS Great readVery enjoyable read could not put it down spellbinding. First Contact: Assess human with the flawed, rudimentary, mind ... Unbeknownst to simpleton Cuddy Perkins, his dependable, uneventful, life was about to be turned completely upside down. It's a moonless summer night when a severely damaged intergalactic spacecraft enters Earth's upper orbit. The alien pilot is desperate. Needs to hold up long enough to make repairs-before his relentless pursuers find him. Cuddy Perkins lives a simple life with his mother, his dog Rufus, and a scattering of farm animals that still inhabit their old, dilapidated, Woodbury Tennessee ranch. He was used to the insults; retard ... simpleton ... village idiot. Momma says to just ignore them ... people can be heartless. But Cuddy already knew he had been different, ever since the accident back when he was seven. He didn't know how long ago that was, exactly, but he did know he was pretty big now-taller than his older brother, Kyle ... who was in prison, and the Woodbury Sherriff-the man who put him there. Reviews: Flowers for E.T.While the representation of a story through a m lange of movies is not something I'm entirely comfortable with, it sometimes seems quite apropos-and in the case of "The Simpleton" by Mark Wayne McGinnis, I'm tempted to say that it is a combination of "The Lawnmower Man", "Flowers For Algernon", and "E.T."-with just a hint of "Ender's Game" thrown in for good measure, at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed McGinnis' take on the familiar 'enhanced intelligence' concept-it has always fascinated me. That the alien feels concerned for enhancing the intelligence of a living thing without its consent is a great doorway to ruminations about the paradox of life being a violent exercise, yet intelligence urges us to seek peace. I appreciate writers who, like Tolstoy, take side-trips into the philosophical in the course of their story-telling. On the downside, I've never been a big fan of the sci-fi trope in which the aliens are too peaceful to defend themselves and thus require us, savage humans, to fight their war for them. How is that not just using humans as second-hand weapons? But, whatever-it also allows for alien characters who are more savage than humans, rather than less-so balance is maintained. Being anti-authoritarian, I'm also a big fan of stories where the security forces and the military are so paranoid and knee-jerk violent that they practically doom the planet in their narrow-minded quest to control a situation they don't understand-so I enjoyed that aspect of this story as well. I'm very story-oriented-when I read, it is basically just to enjoy myself. This makes it difficult for me to discuss my impressions of a book without a great deal of 'spoilers'-but rest assured that "The Simpleton" is far less simple than the little bits I've given away in this review-and the whole story is complex and entrancing in the way only good sci-fi can be.- Xper Dunn Love this author's books.I'm the biggest fan of Mark Wayne McGinnis. The Simpleton was impressive on a lot of levels... the multi-dimensional characters and the unusual and brilliant world he created, and just the science fiction and fantasy and mood he created.. it all blended together in one of the best books I've ever read. I read all of Mark's books. I recommend them all - Scrapyard Ship, Star Watch, Ship Wrecked Stranded on an Alien Planet, Boy Gone, The Hidden Ship, Gun Ship, Guardian Ship, USS Hamilton, and USS Jefferson. Please read this author's work, if you love action and adventure sci-fi or fun and entertaining space scifi space opera, McGinnis will not disappoint.- Sterling
At first, young Ryan Chase thought it was no big deal. A minor space collision with a creepy-looking refurbished Paotow Tanker. Hey, these things happen ... right? Sure, unless the one you've plowed into is a murderous psychopath, who's been lying in wait for the young Consignment Freight delivery pilot. The relentless cat-and-mouse galactic chase is on, and Ryan must either match his pursuer's cunning or die trying. Unbeknownst to Ryan-there's much more going on than he realizes. By the time his aunt, ex-president Nan Reynolds, and Captain Jason Reynolds, plus the rest of the Star Watch team, are alerted, a much larger conspiracy is also occurring, and Ryan could already be captured-or worse-dead. Omni Jason Reynolds, head of the entire Allied force defense, also learns his daughters, Boomer and Mollie, have ventured into the multiverse to deal with the murderous Rom Dasticon once and for all. He soon discovers it was a one-way trip-marooned, the girls have no way to return home-unless he can, somehow, find them one.To discover key answers about the Caldurians and their multiverse technology, Jason and Dira return to the scrapyard where his father, Admiral Perry Reynolds, now semi-retired, resides. Here, long-held secrets of the past are unearthed ... the real story of the discovery of The Lilly and Ricket, once trapped hundreds of feet below ground. But, as they will learn, the story began many years before that, when young Captain Perry Reynolds was commissioned to skipper a secret 1940s-era Iowa-class battleship, the USS Montana. His days spent on that great warship-as well as his subsequent defeat and dishonor-mold the man Perry Reynolds ultimately becomes. As ramifications from past events converge into the present, Jason will be faced with three prominent Star Watch crewmembers meeting their untimely, and emotionally devastating, end. Five years have passed, and the story begins in a dark period within the Star Watch saga. Captain Jason Reynolds, Omni of the U.S. Space Fleet, along with his now sixteen-year-old daughter, Mollie, are en route to the Dacci System to attend the memorial service for none other than Boomer, his other daughter. Information on her death had been sketchy at best-an attack by the Sahhrain on Harpaign, during the Goldwon graduation trials. It had been a massacre. The Blues have since declared war on the Sahhrain, and there is a good chance the U.S. Fleet and the Alliance will be dragged into the fray as well.Once on the planet Harpaign, Jason conducts a preliminary investigation-one that soon reveals things are not what they seem. Information is being withheld and clues indicate there is a slim possibility that Boomer did not die on the sandy dunes battlefield of Capital City after all-setting in motion the most riveting, non-stop action, Star Watch novel yet. So grab ahold your multi-guns and affix your Enhancement shields, because this is going to be one hell of a wild, rollercoaster ride Reviews: This is the Best Book Yet / Boomer / Star Watch Book 3I loved this one - loved just as much as the original Star Watch and Ricket. I looked up at Calloway and then over to Baltimore. "Are you telling me Pippa is inside that body bag? That she's dead?" It's been nearly a year since Rob Chandler drove headlong into a telephone pole, on a deserted road outside Kingman, Arizona. He survived the crash, even the 30,000-volt high-power cable that dangled inches from his head. But he didn't come away from the incident anywhere near the same man he was before. On the negative side, he was hearing strange voices in his head; on the positive side, he'd gained the ability to look deep into others' minds ... and influence their thoughts. Now an agent for the small, covert, SIFTR Agency, Chandler is confronted with the possibility something terrible has occurred to a beloved fellow agent. He knows who is responsible, the WWZ, which is the same fanatical Neo-Nazi organization he'd dealt with only months earlier, in Baden Baden, Germany-and another, even more powerful organization, called the Order. Together they are making their move-one that could alter the geopolitical landscape of the United States, forever. The newly selected multi-billionaire leader of the Order, Rudy Palmolive, has a unique hobby ... he's built an 1881 re-creation of the town of Tombstone ... and it's something else, it's a testing ground for those interested in joining his diabolical organization. When Chandler infiltrates the town, he'll need more than his unique mental capabilities ... he'll need to draw his Colt .45 Peacemaker faster than the man going by the name, Billy the Kid. "What a ride I'm completely out of breath.""By far, this is my favorite of ALL the McGinnis SyFy books.""I stood up and cheered."The need for Star Watch assistance is heating up within the galaxy. With their resources quickly thinning, Ricket and a small team are sent to Port City, on the planet Eriok. Here Ricket's adventure begins, and he'll have to use every bit of his technical cunning to survive, because what's waiting for him will alter the course-for both Star Watch and Ricket forever. Many light-years away, there's a new spatial land-grab in process by the Darion Cartel-their expanding fleet of warships, led by Captain Mar Oswaldo, the Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron) of space ... a masterful starship captain who's never been defeated in battle, and he's ready to come up against the commander of Star Watch, Captain Jason Reynolds.Join the Star Watch team as they encounter both new and old adversaries. Be prepared to say goodbye to a beloved crewmember-one who has been with them since the very beginning. Reviews: I Love Ricket / Book 2 of the Star Watch Box Set Series by Mark Wayne McGinnisHe holds the key to all the technology and that's what drives the story for me. I really like how the scrapyard ship has been upgraded through the books and the improvements Ricket has donated. His laid-back zen approach is also a perfect anchor for all the chaos that the rest of the group goes through. I'm glad MWM.- Dennis Daly This is one of the best books I've read in some timeThis is one of the best books I've read in some time. For those of you who are engineers, you will absolutely love this book. I enjoy all of the Scrapyard series of books but I must say that I think this is the very best of the series. I love that I can never guess where they are going with the plot. The stories are complex and exciting. I actually love other books of Mark, like his latest scifi military series of books, the UUS Hamilton series. Read and enjoy - William C. Gibson Back for the future I've been reading science fiction on and off for almost 60 years, and some of my fondest memories are of the pulp-like works of Robert Heinlein and Andre Norton. Ricket, my first read by Mark Wayne McGinnis, strongly reminded me of those days of personal discovery of other universes. The premises, pacing, and resolutions kept my attention from start to finish, leaving me wanting more. Given McGinnis's apparent productivity, I don't think I'll have to wait long. Even if Heinlein and Norton are unfamiliar names for you, keep Ricket in mind. It's definitely worth a look.- Allan Farbman Thank you Mark, for the fun military scifi action adventure booksI love all of Mark's books: Scrapyard Ship, Star Watch, Ship Wrecked Stranded on an Alien Planet, Boy Gone, Galaxy Man, The Gun Ship, the Hidden Ship, Cloudwalkers, the UUS Hamilton, and the USS Jefferson. From best-selling author, Mark Wayne McGinnis, comes the highly anticipated Scrapyard Ship spin-off series, Star Watch. The Craing wars are now over ... the enemy defeated. As planetary systems around the galaxy try to bring normalcy back to their existence, one thing becomes crystal clear ... without the Craing around to keep everyone in line space has become a far more dangerous place. With tens of thousands warships idle, along with hundreds of thousands Allied crew personnel sitting on their hands, it's up to Admiral Perry Reynolds whether or not to send the combatants home, and mothball most of the ships. But as more and more requests for prompt Allied assistance come in from the farthest reaches of outer space (i.e., for minor incursions into sovereign territory; or others, more serious-including barbaric planetary invasions), Admiral Reynolds is compelled to introduce a new stellar over-watch program. With his own career winding down, one of his final directives will be in the formation of a special, intergalactic, marshaling service ... Star Watch. The admiral has the perfect ship lined up for the task-the most advanced warship in the known galaxy: the mile-long Caldurian vessel-the Minian. Next ... he needs to outfit the ship with a captain and crew he can trust to get this far-range venture initiated properly. Join the Star Watch crew on their first mission to the planet of Trom, where hostile Pharlom invaders have appropriated high altitude cloud-ports as prisoner of war camps. As a fierce battle in space ensues, fragmented warships fall into Trom's atmosphere and head right for a populated cloud-port. Across the galaxy, young Boomer, daughter of Captain Jason Reynolds, begins her training in the ancient fighting methods of the Kahill Callan, and prepares to battle against Lord Vikor Shakrim-leader of the dreaded Sahhrain warriors. Welcome to the final, heart-pounding, episode of the Scrapyard Ship series books. It's all about to end in one climactic crescendo. The story continues, with Captain Jason Reynolds, and his team: Billy, Rizzo, and the rhino-warrior, Traveler. They must attempt to rescue Ricket and Gaddy, still held captive aboard the impregnable Dreathlor prison barge. Only then, can Jason return to The Lilly, his highly advanced Caldurian vessel ... where it all began. The elusive Admiral Ot-Mul, leader of the Craing Drac-Vin forces, has not only survived but thrived, in the far, outer-reaches of space. With hundreds of thousands of warships under his command, Ot-Mul's combined fleets are on the move. But, in truth, he cares about little else than making one man suffer ... Captain Jason Reynolds. With the approach of an enormous fighting force on the horizon, it's the last call to battle. Will the decimated Allied worlds reunite one more time? Will Ot-Mul get his vengeance, by taking those dearest to Jason-Mollie, Boomer, Nan, and Dira-and use them to rip Jason's world, his very existence, apart? Reviews: Best Book and best author, ever Mark does it again, this time ending the Scrapyard Ship box set series with Book 7, Call to Battle. Hope Not / Fun Young Adult Science FictionWhat a super tale has been told I actually just realized I was so caught up in the story on book six that I skipped a review and went right into the final book. No spoilers from me, but what a fun scifi action and adventure story. The ending leaves lots of opportunities for more to come with these characters. Gotta go snoop around Mark's other books and see what's what - Jet Mech This is very good stuff. If you like fun Sci-fi adventure with just ...This is very good stuff. If you like Sci-fi adventure with just enough little Sci (and silly Sci at that -- or perhaps brief is a better word) but more action-driven. And fast ships and shootouts. This is one of my favorite sci-fi series. These are way less serious than the Expanse (Corey) series which I also like a lot -- just different. These are shorter and less engaged and a faster read -- less literary. Which is good when one wants that, the Expanse series is better literature and likely more enduring. This is comfort food. The Expanse series is brain food.- Eric Eberhard Great read Everything was tidied up nicely.Everything was brought to a definite, clean finish. I've read this series with an expectation of discovering something unusual and exciting on every page...I was seldom disappointed. I'd recommend this series to anyone who loves fast-paced action space adventures. The author has created some unusually interesting characters that were both clear of purpose and still individual in their personalities. The author reminds me of Larry Niven in both style and keeping within the confines of the stated capabilities of his dreamed-up tech. Loved the books and am looking forward to the PROMISED spin-offs soon.- Phil A When you think this is the end...For Captain Jason Reynolds, there is no longer a safe place from the Craing. With their armada of two hundred thousand ships, there is no kidding yourself that they will be able to survive and prevent Earth from being annihilated. Ot-Mul, admiral of the Craing fleet is out to get the Lilly and her crew, specifically, Captain Jason Reynolds. He knows that by capturing Jason, the Alliance will fold. What happens to the Lilly and her crew is worth reading. Hope is in the air.- Jimanb
Lone Star Renegades - A YA Space Adventure Name's Collin Frost. I'm your average, run-of-the-mill, completely forgettable seventeen-year-old high school nobody. Buckle up, folks, 'cause this is my story ... the thrilling tale of how my already bottom-of-the-barrel life went from "why me?" to "seriously, universe, what did I do to deserve this?"I guess I should start at the beginning ... you know, that magical moment right before we got sucked up into a freaking alien spaceship. Because apparently, my life wasn't enough of a cosmic joke already.Picture this: we're on the way back from yet another soul-crushing game. I'm the kicker, a.k.a. the guy who gets blamed when things go south. Spoiler alert: we lost. Because of yours truly. Shocking, I know. Try to contain your surprise. But wait, it gets better Our rust bucket of a school bus pulls up to another thrilling railroad crossing in yet another "blink and you'll miss it" town in the vast emptiness of rural Texas. At first, I'm too busy wallowing in my own misery to notice what's got everyone else's jaws on the floor. Then I see it, hovering in the sky like the world's biggest "screw you" to physics ... a spaceship the size of, I don't know, Texas itself? So there I am, watching the 6:15 Amtrak (probably the most exciting thing to happen in this town since color TV) get slurped up into the spaceship's gaping maw like some cosmic spaghetti. And wouldn't you know it, we're next on the menu. Straight into the bowels of what we later discovered was called a "sim rover collector ship." Fancy name for a flying porta-potty, if you ask me.Do we survive this little detour from hell? Shockingly, yes. In fact, our ragtag bunch of alien abduction survivors actually starts kicking some extraterrestrial butt. At least for a while ... But hey, I'm getting ahead of myself. Don't want to spoil all the fun, right?Just remember, sometimes ... and I mean like once in a blue moon ... the scrawny, uncoordinated kid who couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag actually becomes somewhat useful. Who knows? Maybe he even gets the girl. But let's not get crazy here - my luck isn't that good. The universe isn't done laughing at me yet.Author's Note: While the ebook and the paperback versions are Teen/YA friendly vocabulary, the Audiobook has somewhat more explicit adult language. Reviews: Lone Star Renegades by Mark Wayne McGinnis / Enjoyable readingNice mixture of characters and behaviors reflecting typical teen fluctuations with the added excitement and young adult scifi, space opera, space travel, aliens, and warfare.
