"Maurice" was the only children's story ever penned by Mary Shelley. Written two years after "Frankenstein", "Maurice" is often read as a gloss of Shelley's personal family tragedies.

Frankenstein, is a novel written by Mary Shelley. Shelley started writing the story when she was 18 and the novel was published when she was 20. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley's name appears on the second edition, published in France. The title of the novel refers to a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who learns how to create life and creates a being in the likeness of man, but larger than average and more powerful. In popular culture, people have tended incorrectly to refer to the monster as "Frankenstein". Frankenstein is infused with some elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. It was also a warning against the expansion of modern man in the Industrial Revolution, alluded to in the novel's subtitle, The Modern Prometheus. The story has had an influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories and films.Source: http: //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenstein

Think you know Frankenstein? Think again... Many editions use Mary Shelley's softened 1831 revision. This edition restores her bold original text from 1818. Here, the Creature demands justice, not pity. Victor owns his deeds without blaming fate. There are no cosmic excuses; simply choices, consequences, and responsibility. Choosing the 1818 Frankenstein text for classroom study highlights empathy and responsibility by presenting the Creature not as a simple monster, but as a compelling symbol of social alienation and personal suffering. It challenges students morally and intellectually, inviting them to consider how individual and collective actions shape the lives of those marginalized in society. To study Frankenstein through the original 1818 lens is to engage with Mary Shelley's full artistic and ethical vision. This is a work that remains powerfully relevant for discussing ethics, care, and responsibility in the 21st Century. Why This Edition for Educators? This edition reproduces in full Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's 1818 edition without alteration, maintaining the same textual fidelity as major scholarly editions. Unlike abridged or simplified versions, this text preserves every element essential for critical thinking exercises: the Creature's philosophical arguments, Victor's moral accountability, and the complex narrative structure that supports advanced literary analysis. Designed for grades 9-12 with supplemental materials aligned to current educational standards. Supplementary Materials include: Exclusive Teacher's Toolkit*: Common Core-inspired discussion prompts & scaffolded questions. Unabridged 1818 text - the original: ideal for teaching empathy, responsibility, and accountability. Engaging infographics on themes, characters, and context. Insightful essays: "Why the 1818 Text?" (critical essay) & "An Exercise in Empathy" (illustrator's notes). Seamlessly complements popular standards-based curricula like CommonLit 360. Affordable companion Student Edition available (perfect for full-class implementation). Comparative media studies: Shelley's themes in modern film. Wide outer margins for easy annotation. * The Teachers' Toolkit is designed to support educators in guiding high school students through a focused exploration of selected themes in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, specifically alienation and its consequences, abandonment, and its complex portrayals of humanity and compassion. The resource incorporates a variety of prompts that encourage critical thinking, textual analysis, and thoughtful discussion in the context of these themes, inspired by Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to ensure skills development for Grades 9 through 12.

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley a fost o scriitoare engleză care a scris romanul gotic Frankenstein. Shelley și-a găsit, de asemenea, o formă de exprimare creativă n scris. Conform cărții The Life and Letters of Mary Wollstonecraft, ea a explicat odată că " n copilărie, scriam; iar pasiunea mea preferată, n timpul liber, era să scriu povești".

Frankenstein: The Original 1818 Unabridged and Complete Edition by Mary Shelley is the definitive version of this iconic Gothic novel, presenting the full, unaltered text as it was first published in 1818. This edition captures the raw intensity of Shelley's vision, before later revisions toned down some of the darker elements of the story. The novel tells the haunting tale of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist whose obsession with creating life leads him to build a creature from body parts, only to abandon it in horror. Rejected by society and his creator, the creature embarks on a path of vengeance and despair. Shelley's exploration of themes such as ambition, isolation, the ethical limits of scientific experimentation, and the quest for belonging remains as relevant today as when it was first written. This edition offers readers an authentic experience of one of the most influential works of literature in its original, powerful form.

More than a gothic thriller, the novel is a profound exploration of scientific responsibility, the nature of humanity, and the price of unchecked ambition. Its legacy endures in debates on technology, artificial intelligence, and bioethics, cementing Shelley's novel as one of the most influential works in modern literature.
