La francophonie en action is a revolutionary, four-volume textbook series utilizing the action-oriented approach (AOA) to learning French as a second or foreign language. The four core volumes are an immersive, complete language-learning system. With a strong emphasis on the francophone world, including a much-needed focus on francophone and Indigenous Canada, this series covers multiple stages of French language learning (beginner, elementary, intermediate, and upper intermediate). The intended level of this first volume, B1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference), is for courses guiding students from elementary to intermediate. While employing a variety of individual, interactive, and collaborative activities, students will be encouraged to engage in a way that ensures agency over their language learning process by presenting clear and simple forms of language inclusive of all gender identities and by interacting in real-life situations presented in the text for an authentic and experiential twist to their learning. Each title within the series is divided into distinct stages that each focus on one of the core modes of communication: reception, production, interaction, and mediation. The modules guide students through a series of purposeful and practical activities that trigger successful learning of the French language while promoting the development of plurilingual and pluricultural competences. Activities can be implemented on or off campus, to accommodate programs that utilize either in-class or remote learning. The series is accompanied by robust pedagogical features, including instructor supplements and a companion website, which contains audio and video materials, self-checking grammar exercises, and additional student activities for each volume. La francophonie en action is a complete solution for all departments offering a French Studies program at Canadian, American, or international university. Canadian programs will be excited to see a much-needed focus on francophone and Indigenous Canada while also exploring the varied global francophone world.

The human hand is an amazing tool, demonstrated by its incredible motor capability and remarkable sense of touch. To enable robots to work in a human-centric environment, it is desirable to endow robotic hands with human-like capabilities for grasping and object manipulation. However, due to its inherent complexity and inevitable model uncertainty, robotic grasping and manipulation remains a challenge. This book focuses on grasp adaptation in the face of model and sensing uncertainties: Given an object whose properties are not known with certainty (e.g., shape, weight and external perturbation), and a multifingered robotic hand, we aim at determining where to put the fingers and how the fingers should adaptively interact with the object using tactile sensing, in order to achieve either a stable grasp or a desired dynamic behaviour.
In East Asian economies such as China, recent mass rural-urban migration has created a new urban underclass, as have their children. However, their inclusion in urban public schools is a surprisingly slow process, and youth identities in newly industrialized countries remain largely neglected. Faced with monetary and institutional barriers, the majority of migrant youth attend low-quality or underperforming migrant schools, without access to the free compulsory education enjoyed by their urban counterparts. As a result, China’s citizen-building scheme and the sustainability of its labor-intensive economy have greatly impacted global economic restructuring. Using thorough ethnographic research, this volume examines the consequences of urban schooling and citizenship education through which school and social processes contribute to the production of unequal class relations. It explores the nexus of citizenship education and identity-forming practices of poor migrant youth in an attempt to foresee the new class formation in Chinese society. This volume opens up the "black box" of citizenship education in China and examines the effect of school and societal forces on social mobility and life trajectories.

This book introduces the current state of research on dark energy. It consists of three parts. The first part is for preliminary knowledge, including general relativity, modern cosmology, etc. The second part reviews major theoretical ideas and models of dark energy. The third part reviews some observational and numerical works. The aim of this book is to provide a sufficient level of understanding of dark energy problems, so that the reader can both get familiar with this area quickly and also be prepared to tackle the scientific literature on this subject. It will be useful for graduate students and researchers who are interested in dark energy.
