First published in 1971 The London that was Rome is both a detective story and a tale of buried treasure. Some years ago, Michael Harrison set out to discover the truth about Roman London. Did it survive the Saxon onslaught in the fifth century or (as many historians have claimed) did it lie sacked, ruined, and abandoned for about a century and a half? Searching for an answer, Harrison forged himself a new ‘truth detecting’ method of discovery; but even he could not anticipate the immense success of this method. With ‘New Archaeology’ he has not only recovered the street plan of Roman London, but also replaced the buildings-temples, barracks, banks, baths, picture-galleries, treasuries and so on – which lined those streets. In many cases he has been able to name the streets and at the same time vividly describe for us the social and economic life of a London, which under the Caesars, ranked among the principal cities of the Empire. This book is an interesting read for students of archaeology, history, and for general readers interested to know about London.

This book examines the dominant popular culture convention of the superhero, situated within the most significant global event of the last 20 years. Exploring the explosion of the superhero genre post-9/11, it sheds fresh light on the manner in which American society has processed and continues to process the trauma from the terrorist attacks. Beginning with the development of Batman in comics, television, and film, the authors offer studies of popular films including Iron Man, Captain America, The X-Men, Black Panther, and Wonder Woman, revealing the ways in which these texts meditate upon the events and aftermath of 9/11 and challenge the dominant hyper-patriotic narrative that emerged in response to the attacks. A study of the superhero genre’s capacity to unpack complex global interplays that question America’s foreign policy actions and the white, militarized masculinity that has characterized major discourses following 9/11, this volume explores the engagement of superhero films with issues of authority, patriotism, war, morals, race, gender, surveillance, the military industrial complex, and American political and social identities. As such, it will appeal to scholars and students of cultural and media studies, film studies, sociology, politics, and American studies.

This book will help MongoDB beginners develop the knowledge and skills to create databases and process data efficiently.Unlike other MongoDB books, MongoDB Fundamentals dives into cloud computing from the very start – showing you how to get started with Atlas in the first chapter. You will discover how to modify existing data, add new data into a database, and handle complex queries by creating aggregation pipelines. As you progress, you'll learn about the MongoDB replication architecture and configure a simple cluster. You will also get to grips with user authentication, as well as techniques for backing up and restoring data. Finally, you'll perform data visualization using MongoDB Charts. You will work on realistic projects that are presented as bitesize exercises and activities, allowing you to challenge yourself in an enjoyable and attainable way. Many of these mini-projects are based around a movie database case study, while the last chapter acts as a final project where you will use MongoDB to solve a real-world problem based on a bike-sharing app.By the end of this book, you'll have the skills and confidence to process large volumes of data and tackle your own projects using MongoDB.What you will learnSet up and use MongoDB Atlas on the cloudInsert, update, delete, and retrieve data from MongoDBBuild aggregation pipelines to perform complex queriesOptimize queries using indexesMonitor databases and manage user authorizationImprove scalability and performance with sharding clustersReplicate clusters, back up your database, and restore dataCreate data-driven charts and reports from real-time dataWho this book is forThis book is designed for people who are new to MongoDB. The Believer's Marriage with Christ

The Believer's Marriage with Christ

Michael Harrison (1640-1729) was a faithful puritan minister of the Gospel and a powerful Reformed Presbyterian preacher. What does it mean to offer the Gospel freely to sinners? In this work Harrison brings the blessed Gospel offer in all its power in the outward indiscriminate preaching of the word of God. Yes, God offers Christ to poor sinners that they may find rest, and that without money and without price. In this expanded work from a sermon that Harrison delivered faithfully to his church, he expounds Matthew 22:2-14, "The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son..." He divides the teaching, as all good puritan preachers were accustomed to do, into three sections. He first opens the text, then provides the doctrine of the text, and then applies the text. His main doctrine, faithfully developed, is that God in and by the Gospel freely offers Jesus Christ, with all the benefits of his death, to all that are willing to come to him and receive him on Gospel-terms.As much as this work is a plea to sinners on behalf of Jesus Christ, ministers of the Gospel today, even those of the reformed flavor, would do well to listen to Harrison, and learn of him in his presentation. If more preachers would follow his doctrine, style and fervor, the Spirit would look kindly on such endeavors, and there would be more Christians today made by God's grace, and for Christ's glory. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

A MEMOIR. Out of Sight/Out of Mind is the story of a man's struggles with the Alabama Justice System. It chronicles not only his fight to maintain his innocence and dignity, but also his coming to grips with his own shortcomings and failures, while trying to keep his sanity. A rollercoaster of emotions; fear, shame, anger, and hate, envelop the man as he confronts a corrupt and callous system that he never knew existed within his beloved home state. Out of Sight/Out of Mind peels back the layers of our Justice and Corrections systems and exposes the injustices and the sometimes inhumane oversights and vision of our elected and appointed authoritative figures. For the businessman, it also warns of the consequences of losing focus on your dream and neglecting your attention to detail. THIS COULD BE YOU
