The popular Netflix series The Crown covers the tumultuous period from the Queen’s accession in 1952 to the present day, and so does this book, which explores the rise, decline and—to some—unexpected rebound of the historic UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand alliance. While a post-Brexit and post-Elizabethan Britain seeks a new role in today’s volatile world, its traditional partner countries also recognise the logic of reinvigorating their relationship, based on a multitude of still-strong cultural, economic, political, and military ties, including the monarchy as a uniquely shared global, and not merely British, institution. But this wasn’t always the case. Although in the 1950s commentators spoke of a new "Elizabethan Age" with much postwar hope across the Commonwealth, that optimism quickly faded. By the 1970s, many thought Britain washed up and that Crown and Commonwealth ties and allegiance were becoming obsolete. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the four countries increasingly went their separate ways. So, a groggy time-traveller from that period appearing in London, Toronto, Sydney, or Auckland today would be taken by surprise by the durability of the Crown, even as it has passed to King Charles, and the growing reconvergence of the four "CANZUK" realms in terms of trade, defence, foreign policy coordination, freedom of movement, mutual recognition of professional qualifications, and other new or revived links. This book evocatively tells the whole story of where we are, what’s possible for the future, and not least how we got here. In today’s age of global instability and raw power politics, this renewed Anglosphere Crown Commonwealth alliance is more important and relevant than ever.
Handbook of Program Evaluation for Social Work and Health Professionals
Evaluation is crucial for determining the effectiveness of social programs and interventions. In this nuts and bolts handbook, social work and health care professionals are shown how evaluations should be done, taking the intimidation and guesswork out of this essential task. Current perspectives in social work and health practice, such as the strengths perspective, consumer empowerment, empowerment evaluation, and evidence-based practice, are linked to evaluation concepts throughout the book to emphasize their importance. This book makes evaluation come alive with comprehensive examples of each different type of evaluation, such as a strengths-based needs assessment in a local community, a needs assessment for Child Health Plus programs, comprehensive program descriptions of HIV services and community services for the aged, a model for goals and objectives in programs for people with mental illness, a monitoring study of private practice social work, and process evaluations of a Medicare advocacy program and a health advocacy program to explain advance directives. Equal emphasis is given to both quantitative and qualitative data analysis with real examples that make statistics and concepts in qualitative analysis un-intimidating. By integrating both evaluation and research methods and assuming no previous knowledge of research, this book makes an excellent reference for professionals working in social work and health settings who are now being called upon to conduct or supervise program evaluation and may need a refresher on research methods. With a pragmatic approach that includes survey design, data collection methods, sampling, analysis, and report writing, it is also an excellent text or classroom resource for students new to the field of program evaluation.

The Last Mission Ship - Part One, has been produced on behalf of Uncharted Collective with the aim of raising awareness of what is believed to be the last Mission vessel built for sail in Australian and South Sea waters - the seventy-two year old MV Stephen Davies. This book is also to deliver an ongoing legacy aimed at raising awareness of the impact Missionaries and Missions had in the South Seas, including Cape York and the Torres Strait, with a particular focus on the sailing ships involved in the trade and the communities, villages and Islands in which they operated. Mission Vessel (MV) Stephen Davies is the last Missionary Ship built under sail for Australia's last frontier Missions, dotted throughout remote Cape York and the Torres Strait. MV Stephen Davies may also well be the last sailing Missionary Ship surviving in the South Seas. MV Stephen Davies' story, along with the many owners, missionaries, government officials, passengers and crew and their children who stepped aboard her, all have a story to tell, long into the next century. MV Stephen Davies still has a role to play. We need your support to bring one of the last Mission vessels built under sail, back into service to do some of the good work that she was built for. The Last Mission Ship - Part One is the first of a three-part book series. Part Two will be in-depth history of Missionaries and their ships of the South Pacific and Part Three being the history, restoration and relaunch of the MV Stephen Davies itself.
