Fitzmaurice Voicework: Embodying the Holistic Voice is the ultimate guide to a world-renowned voice approach for discovering and developing the voice's full expressive potential and healthy use. Catherine Fitzmaurice, the originator of the Fitzmaurice Voicework approach, and Michael Morgan bring together over 60 years of original, class-tested exercises and concepts. Detailed instructions, anecdotes, and visuals are used to create an immersive, student-centered learning experience. The book rethinks short- and long-term tensions, mental barriers, and stage fright, providing self-empowering and compassionate ways to enhance vocal abilities for clearer communication, more vocal variety, and meeting vocal performance demands. The authors describe a voice technology that holistically strengthens the speaker's ability to synthesize sensations, emotions, and reflexes with mental decisions. This is done through exercises that elicit the power of the autonomic and central nervous systems through a multi-layered integrative mind/body/breath approach and introducing the innovative Destructuring/Restructuring process. Fitzmaurice Voicework is about creating meaning that considers one's entire humanity. Acting students and voice teachers will find this insightful and unique volume to be an invaluable resource. It also helps actors, voiceover artists, singers, public speakers, and anybody else develop their expressive and communication skills. It's for people who desire to speak more clearly, spontaneously, authentically, and decisively.

Emmanuel Levinas (1906-1995) stands in the great tradition of phenomenology that stretches from Edmund Husserl to Martin Heidegger. His emphasis on the importance of the ‘Other’ in ethics has had a huge impact in continental philosophy, literature and religious studies. However, Levinas’s preoccupation with the idea of ‘ethics as first philosophy’, combined with the challenging nature of his prose and terminology, have tended to obscure his important contributions to mainstream philosophy. In this outstanding introduction Michael Morgan examines and assesses Levinas for those coming to his work for the first time. Beginning with an overview of Levinas’s life and times he discusses the following fundamental aspects of Levinas’s thought Phenomenology and transcendental philosophy: the significance of Kant, Husserl and Heidegger in Levinas’s philosophy and the origins of his theory of otherness The ideas and themes in Totality and Infinity, including Levinas’s discussion of eschatology and messianism and his introduction of the face-to-face relation as the primary dimension of ethical value Levinas’s application of the face-to-face relation to political, moral and epistemological problems and the novel expressions used by Levinas to describe them, such as trace, illeity and diachrony The problem of the authority of the ethical, the relation between the ethical and time, and how the ethical involves human freedom, responsibility and identity The ideas in Levinas’s second major work, Otherwise than Being, particularly his theories of self and subjectivity and the interdependence between interpersonal, ethical responsibility and the political domain of justice Levinas’s philosophical legacy, including the contribution of his ideas to contemporary discussions about the sources of normativity in ethics and the dialogical nature of ethical inquiryIncluding chapter summaries, annotated further reading and a glossary of technical terms this is an ideal introduction to Levinas’s thought for anyone coming to his work for the first time. It will be essential reading for students in philosophy as well as related disciplines such as religion, theology, Jewish studies and literature.

It Wasn't All Bad!: A glimpse into 37 years of Policing in Counties Manukau
I guess that this has happened before but I wrote the last sentence of the book first. It was a powerful statement that I just had to make. I then started my story from the beginning but was always motivated by the desire to reach the conclusion so that I could type in the final sentence for real....and I did Some stories don't need to be told and mine is probably one of them. My Police career was neither significant nor important. Many police officers have done far greater things than I. Their stories make mine pale into insignificance. I did however stick with it for 37 years and that should count for something. I was proud of some of the things I achieved particularly in the role of Prosecutor. Readers will note that very few participants are actually named unless they are celebrities or it would be rude not to. I simply don't want the drama of upsetting someone or forgetting others. I'm also mindful that in some instances I'm protecting what may be perceived as misdeeds, statute of limitations and all. I'm also confident that those of you who were around at the time will have little difficulty in putting the pieces together. You can be assured that each of the stories are true. Some are slightly embellished however for effect but not so as to destroy factual integrity.I really enjoyed my time with New Zealand Police. It's a pity that another government department left a sour taste at the end. No ongoing resentment...yeah right That being said, come with me now on this mildly interesting adventure, after all....IT WASN'T ALL BAD This is the preface to the tale of my Police career. It commenced with uniquely historical events at the Police College and then developed over the years to my niche as a prosecutor. I record quite a number of amusing and sometimes tragic tales. There is an ongoing royal theme culminating with meet and greets with Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Prince of Wales. To top it off, it ends with a shafting by another government department. What isn't there to like? I've even gone ahead and counted them. There are over 120 separate Police stories, yarns and quips. Not to mention the odd musing

We lift up the psalms to God as our prayers. We borrow the language of these ancient texts, and they become our works. We are not secondhand recipients of Gods word but communicants actively in conversation with God. What seems to set the Psalms apart from the rest of Scripture is their sacramental nature, their unique ability to mold and transform the believer. The Psalter for Christian Worshipreclaims the Psalms for congregational worship with new texts set to familiar hymnal tunes. This collection, for worship leaders, musicians, and congregations, will inspire both corporate and private devotions.Features include: The Old Testament flavor of the Psalter is retained with new sensitivity to imagery and inclusive language; all 150 psalms have been converted into hymns of reasonable length to be sung in church; an index of suggested hymn tunes is included; and an index for liturgical use is also provided.

World War II and the Delaware Coast

Within weeks of Pearl Harbor, German U-boats arrived off the Delaware coast and attacked numerous ships along the vital shipping lanes to Philadelphia and Wilmington. On February 28, 1942, two German torpedoes hit the destroyer Jacob Jones, which was carrying more than one hundred American sailors. It sank in less than an hour. A center for military activity, Lewes became a refuge for many survivors from such attacks. The dunes along Cape Henlopen hid the massive artillery batteries of Fort Miles. Residents of the beachfront communities rallied amid the blackout regulations and air raid drills with rationing and scrap drives. Spotters watched for enemy warships in concrete towers that still line the coast. Author Michael Morgan tells the remarkable story of a coast at war.
