Since formation in 1957 the Army Air Corps has played a prominent role in almost every British Army operation in modern times. Ops Normal is an unrivalled and comprehensive operational history of the Army Air Corps experience. It is a unique insight into the aircraft deployed, and the experiences of the men and women involved.Volume 2 of Ops Normal continues the Army Air Corp's history through to the twenty-first century, covering a full spectrum of operations. Aircrew and groundcrew provided critical aviation support to the British Army in the most hazardous environments and often under fire. It also captures the emergence of the Corps as a fully fledge combat arm that has become indispensable on the modern battlefield.Ops Normal Volume 2 covers operations in Northern Ireland, Rhodesia, the Falkland Islands, the Gulf, the Balkans, Sierra Leone, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. It uses previously unpublished material, thought-provoking first-hand accounts coupled with contemporary unit records, and many unpublished images. The result is a fresh and compelling history of a Corps that though diminutive in numbers, ranks as one of the most potent in the British army's order of battle.Ops Normal is the only complete and authorised account of British Army aviation operations undertaken by the Army Air core. It is a fitting tribute to all who wore the sky blue beret and especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice. It is also a testimony to those that survive with the physical and mental scars of their service.

Ops Normal is an unrivalled and comprehensive operational history of the Army Air Corps experience. It is a unique insight into the aircraft deployed, and the experiences of the men and women involved.Volume 1 of Ops Normal is exceptional as it draws generously on the testimony of those who were deployed on the early operations. Aircrew and Groundcrew, provided critical aviation support to the full spectrum of flying operations in the most hazardous environments, often under fire. It also captures the pace of change and turbulence as the small embryonic corps of aviators evolved into the fully fledged combat arm of today.Ops Normal covers operations in Malaya, Borneo, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Kuwait, Aden, British Guiana, Belize and in Northern Ireland. It uses previously unpublished material, thought-provoking first-hand accounts coupled with contemporary unit records, and many unpublished images. Bomb Group

In February 1942, a reconnaissance party of United States Army Air Forces officers arrived in England. Firmly wedded to the doctrine of daylight precision bombing, they believed they could help turn the tide of the war in Europe. In the months that followed, they formed the Eighth Air Force - an organization that grew at an astonishing rate. To accommodate it, almost seventy airfields were hastily built across the eastern counties of England. At the heart of the Eighth Air Force were its bombardment groups, each equipped with scores of heavily armed, four-engine bombers. These Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses and Consolidated B-24 Liberators were soon punching through the enemy's defences to bomb targets vital to its war effort. They were crewed by thousands of young American airmen, most of whom were volunteers. This book tells the story of just one "Bomb Group" - the 381st, which crossed the Atlantic in May 1943. Arriving at RAF Ridgewell on the Essex-Suffolk border, its airmen quickly found themselves thrown into the hazardous and attritional air battle raging in the skies over Europe. Bomb Group follows the 381st's path from its formation in the Texan desert, to its 297th and final bombing mission deep into the heart of Hitler's Third Reich. It is the remarkable story of one group and the part it played in the strategic bombing campaign of "The Mighty Eighth."

Resisting Trump: Teaching English Language Arts in the Age of the Demagogue

The authors who regularly hum the classic Monty Python song-"Always look on the bright side of life" view the Trump presidency not just as an unmitigated disaster but also as a "teachable moment." Trump's remarkable rhetorical skills in grasping and holding power are often overlooked but they are worth reviewing if only to see how an amoral politician can frame key ideas in a way that pack emotional and more importantly electoral college punch. These skills are neither trivial or unworthy of study-they are the stock in trade of a born demagogue. Arming our students with some tools to resist the onslaught of lies, half truths and myths that Trump and many like him now trade in is not as some might claim, politicizing the classroom, but a genuine effort to prevent them from succumbing (as many did in the 1930s and 40s) to the appeals of fascism and authoritarian rule. The authors provide non partisan ways to help your students dissect faulty arguments, and irrational appeals that weaken rather than strengthen their own agency. With references to the Common Core and many of the most widely taught books in the ELA curriculum-1984, The Bluest Eye and Hunger Games as well as Shakespeare-the authors help you as a teacher make your lessons more relevant and meaningful for the times we live in.

"Retirement Reading: Bibliotherapy for the Over Sixties," is intended for boomers as they either contemplate retirement or want to find out what they might have to look forward to in life's next stage. The book is designed to fill a gap in the market saturated with books about retirement that deal almost exclusively with financial and health issues not with the experience of what kind of life experience you can expect in your post 60 years. "What these other retirement books miss" according to co-author Dr Laurence Peters is to "understand that life over sixty challenges you to the core-and forces you to come to terms with who you have been and what goals you have yet to achieve in remarkable and sometimes unsettling ways. While no one book has all the answers we believe that you will find more than a few pointers following our close reading of over fifty of the most powerful fiction and non fiction written over the past 2,000 years." The method advocated, biblotherapy, has its roots back in Ancient Egypt when the motto over the world's oldest library, was "House of Healing for the Soul,"happens to be the fastest growing form of cognitive therapy is ideally designed to help over 60s adjust to their new status. The book is divided into seven chapters, Attitudes to Aging, Ancient and Modern, Physical Decline and Disease, Memories, Memoirs, Looking Back and Questions of Meaning. A total of 53 books are discussed under these headings, a mix of autobiography (Springsteen's "Born to Run" is included), fiction, many Updike and Roth novels are discussed as well as a range of nonfiction such as the recent Sarah Bakewell's "In the Existentialist Cafe" and Michael Kinsley's "Old Age: A Beginners Guide". Mixed in are ancient authors such as Marcus Aurelius still very contemporary "Meditations" and Cicero's "On Old Age."
