When the railroad came to Las Vegas, the outlaws came with it.In 1879, Las Vegas, NM, was a town divided by progress. On one side, the original Mexican settlers; on the other, the new arrivals seeking their fortune in the lawlessness of the growing New Town. Right away, crime crossed the river.During this time, the most-wanted outlaw in the New Mexico Territory was Dave Rudabaugh, sometimes called "Dirty Dave," but never to his face. His best friend in the entire world was John Joshua Webb, an upstanding lawman starting to bend. As members of "The Dodge City Gang" in Las Vegas, NM, Rudabaugh and Webb were part of a large network of corruption, thievery, and murder, all under the guise of "The Law." Damned if Webb could explain his own thinking. From author and journalist Mike Watt (Hot Splices: The Author's Cut) comes this unique "mostly true" blend of fiction and historical research. The notorious Close & Patterson Dance Hall, to the fearsome "hanging windmill"- all nearly lost in time, Dave Rudabaugh and the "Gang" overshadowed by one of the first "cults of personality" in popular culture: the rampaging Billy the Kid. Make no mistake: The Kid rode with Rudabaugh. Here are the stories of the City of Meadows centered on an ill-fated friendship that led to bloody gunfights, brutal lynchings, and desperate prison breaks. In a town with dueling newspaper editors, all overseen by a blind reporter, it still manages to set the record straight on the kinds of men that were Rudabaugh and Webb.

"Tell me that I can sponge away the writing on that stone, spirit I beg you " and with these words, as told to Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge did NOT die... and he wants to do something about that now. He'll need the help of a talented magician on a specially magical Christmas Eve, to chase down the Ghost of Christmas Yet-to-Come and unsponge his stone. A dark fantasy semi-sequel to Charles Dickens' seminal classic, "A Christmas Carol," as only Mike Watt can tell it. Cover by Don England.
Who could forget the great setpieces Tom Savini dreamed up for his remake of George Romero's classic Night of the Living Dead? Like that wonderful scene where Ben, able to get only one shell into his revolver, is being attacked by a zombie, and we watch, agonized, as the cylinder rotates slowly, with every fruitless click of the hammer bringing that live shell closer, closer to firing. Or the fantastic homage to Lolita in which Barbara, transformed from the weak, shell-shocked victim to the gun-toting, take-charge hero, executes the cowardly Harry Cooper as he hides behind a full-length mirror, metaphorically fracturing herself into millions of pieces. All of those sequences may be unfamiliar you because they were never filmed, never even made it past the storyboard stage. As Savini fans are aware, there are numerous things the veteran effects master had planned for his feature film directorial debut, and the three listed above don't even scratch the surface of the unseen version of Night of the Living Dead 1990. Now, however, nearly thirty years after the fact, the true story can be told.
The punk rock scene of the 1970s and ’80s in Southern California is widely acknowledged as one of the most vibrant, creative periods in all of rock and roll history. And while many books have covered the artists who contributed to the music of that era, none have exclusively focused on the vitality and influence of the women who played such a crucial role in this incredibly dynamic and instrumental movement. We Were Going to Change the World captures the stories of women who were active in the SoCal punk rock scene during this historic time, adding an important voice to its cultural and musical record. Through exclusive interviews with musicians, journalists, photographers, and fans, Stacy Russo has captured the essence of why these women were drawn to punk rock, what they witnessed, and how their involvement in this empowering scene ended up influencing the rest of their lives. From such hugely influential musicians and performers as Exene Cervenka, Alice Bag, Kira, Phranc, Johanna Went, Teresa Covarrubias, and Jennifer Precious Finch, to such highly regarded journalists, DJs, and photographers as Ann Summa, Jenny Lens, Kristine McKenna, Pleasant Gehman, and Stella, to the fans and scenesters who supported the bands and added so much color and energy to the scene, We Were Going to Change the World is an important oral history of the crucial contributions women injected into the Southern California punk rock scene of the 1970s and ’80s. Empowering, touching, and informative, Stacy Russo’s collection of interviews adds a whole new dimension to the literature of both punk rock and women’s studies.

Introduction by Mike Watt (bassist extraordinaire) Filmmaker. Journalist. Screnwriter. Film geek. Irrepressible curmudgeon. He's been called "insightful", "enlightening" and "highly entertaining". Academy Award Winner(tm) Jon Voight called him "a very dangerous man". He's also been called "judgmental", and an "egomaniacal monster"-and at least one internet-user accused him of being a criminal. Now, for your reading delight and amusement, five years worth of Watt's articles, essays and random thoughts, ripped from his online and print columns "Random Acts of Mike Watt" and "The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth", are collected for the first time in this handsome thing made of actual paper. And you can decide for yourself which of those above descriptions are true and what other adjectives should be applied to him. (We'd like to recommend "pluperfect", "opaque" and "low sodium".)
