'The Haunting of Zona Heaster Shue' is a ghost story. It is also the true account of the only known case in US history where the testimony of a ghost helped to convict a murderer in a court of law. The event took place in the Appalachia Mountains of West Virginia in1897. Numerous photographs, court documents, letters and official records present a real life accounting of the legend.

2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the Hominy Falls Mine Disaster that took place in the heart of the Appalachian coal fields on May 6, 2018. Twenty five coal miners were trapped in an underground tomb when 15 million gallons of water broke into the Hominy Falls mine from an abandoned work site on May 6, 1968. For the next two weeks, the attention of the nation was riveted on the small mining community as volunteers worked feverishly to bring the men out alive, a feat which many believed could only be accomplished by a miracle.

The children who participated in the 2018 Summer Reading Camp at the Quinwood Community Library in Quinwood, West Virginia wrote the stories and illustrated them for this unique and charming book. It is a wonderful childhood keepsake.
