Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology is a key feature and the most promising technology to truly reach the promised transfer data rates of 5G communications. Compared with previous generations, a large number of antenna elements, operating concurrently, is expected to be applied for 5G mobile handsets. The book "MIMO Antenna Systems for 5G Mobile Handsets" outlines the design, simulation, fabrication, and measurements of several diversity MIMO antenna arrays with multiple elements and improved characteristics for 5G mobile handset applications. Various designs of single-band, multi-band, and broad-band MIMO antennas with dual-polarization and reduced mutual coupling function have been designed and their properties are investigated. In addition, the impacts of user-hand/user-head and SAR levels are studied.

Where possible pictures of real devices have been used to illustrate the theory. Drawing from the editors' vast experience in linear and nonlinear RF applications and of being at the forefront of 5G systems, this book also aims to discuss and review the recent developments and challenges in the design techniques of reconfigurable filters and antennas, as well as their integration. It is expected that the book will be useful to MSc and PhD students and will hopefully serve as a valuable tool for all RF/Microwave researchers, in academia and industry alike, to draw inspiration towards taking further innovative strides in this fast‐evolving arena. It should also provide a useful reference for RF research workers and engineers who are designing and/or specifying filters and antennas for commercial systems.
