123 phase and hence have no direct bearing on the retention time of solutes. However in gas-solid chromatography, a considerable quantity of the mobile phase may be adsorbed on the surface of the stationary adsorbent which diminishes the column's effective length and ability to retain solutes. In this respect helium has been found to be preferable to most other gases (GREENE and Roy, 1957) because it is adsorbed to the least extent. 3. Packed columns offer a considerable resistance to flow, which may create a pressure differential between inlet and outlet of sufficient magnitude to cause an unfavorable flow rate through a significant length of the column. A reduced inlet/outlet pressure ratio can be obtained by using light molecular weight gases toward which the column packing shows the greatest permeability. The flow rate of the mobile phase is normally adjusted by altering the column inlet pressure, for which purpose commercial pressure regulators of sufficient accuracy are available. Quantitative measurements of the flow rate can be made by a number of methods, including rotameters, orifice meters, soapfilm flow meters and displacement of water. The former two methods are the most con venient but the least accurate; moreover they create a back pressure and are temperature dependent whereas although the moving soap bubble is cumbersome to employ and unusable for continuous readings, it is preferred when the highest accuracy is required.
The Essence Wars - An Envious God
The Essence Wars - An Envious God Book One of The Essence Wars Six years have passed since the fires of The Seeker's Wrath, and the Eastern Union stands on the brink. Treaties unravel, alliances falter, and whispers speak of a power long buried beneath the roots of the world. The gifted are vanishing. The old laws no longer hold. Returning to the fort she was meant to defend, Maerwyn Sawngfli found only desolation. No clash of steel. No desperate last stand. Only silence, blood, and the heavy imprint of something unnatural. The garrison was gone, its defenders vanished without trace. Days later, two soldiers from the West stumbled from a hidden tunnel beneath the ruin, each bound to a lumineer-creatures born of the Essence and shaped by war. Adrift and hunted, they form an uneasy pact with Maerwyn and her warhound. Together, they track the shadow that consumed the fort, unaware that what they pursue is far older-and far more dangerous-than anything the East has prepared for. The kingdoms are fracturing. Old alliances strain under the weight of quiet betrayals and tightening resources. At the heart of the Eastern Union, the Citadel of Aliztar moves behind closed doors, its motives obscured even from its allies. The pact that once bound East and North now wavers, a fragile agreement stretched thin by fear and ambition. And far beyond the known lands, across the desert no one dares to cross, something begins to stir. But in the shadows, something older is watching. As ancient forces awaken, the paths of hunters and hunted, soldiers and outcasts, collide. Each carries a truth the world is not ready to face. Each bears a gift that may either save what remains or hasten its collapse. The Essence does not merely grant power. It demands a price. For fans of immersive, character-driven epic fantasy with deep political intrigue, spiritual tension, and brutal realism, The Essence Wars begins a saga of broken faith, unraveling alliances, and the monstrous cost of power. This is not the beginning of a war. It is the unraveling of the world.
