A 20-unit interactive Bible study of Joshua’s arrival in the Promised Land. The life of Abraham and God’s promises to him plus Moses’ leading a weary bunch of grumblers in the wilderness become familiar. In the action novels Shepherd, Potter, Spy—and the Star Namer (2015) and The Star Namer and the Unchosen (2019), Consolver introduces a family of potters among the Gibeonites of Joshua 9 & 10 who post spies over Jericho, becoming eyewitnesses to the conquest. Each unit contains four parts: Bible, Bible Places, Research, and Expressing Yourself. Visit the “Bible Places” through map exercises, YouTube links, Satellite Bible maps, and virtual tours, etc. Research inquiries range from “How to Sling a Slingstone” or “Braiding a 7-Cord Rope” to choosing among “Thirty Amazing Fortresses” featured in Popular Mechanics and finding out more. Students will gain confidence in expressing themselves through describing how they perceive the characters, the story, or the assignment. Any age Bible student will relish this study. All ages will more clearly see, hear, and feel the action in Joshua’s saga by engaging with two brothers Keshub and Eskie, young Gibeonites who meet Joshua and become believers in the Most High God of the Hebrew Bible.

The Star Namer and the Unchosen is the sequel to Shepherd, Potter, Spy and the Star Namer. In Aijalon Valley, an epic battle pitted the forces of a despicable king against the army that brought down the most powerful city of Canaan with a shout, literally. On battlefield clean-up duty, the seventeen-year-old son of the master potter rescues a wounded friend-- the expert archer of Jerusalem forced to serve in the tyrant's army. While Eskie helps his friend return home and rescues his father from the dungeon, he fights an inner battle between his father's faith and his own self-reliance. Along the way, he gathers an unlikely band of heroes including the son of a thief, a deaf sandal-maker and a lonely giant. And then there is Pickle Girl—a saucy young lady, named for a thorny bush that grows out of solid rock and whose pickled buds are a condiment for wild game. The fictional story of The Star Namer and the Unchosen suggests how the Jebusites took over Jerusalem and became the stronghold able to resist the efforts of both the men of Judah (Joshua 15:63) and the men of Benjamin (Judges 1:21).
