Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and the Image of God
Can artificial intelligence (AI) attain human-level consciousness? And if so, should the church minister salvation to AI? Through engaging philosophy of mind, AI research, the cognitive sciences, neuroscience, and theological anthropology, Dr. Bellini attempts to answer these questions. The hypothesis is if the hard problem of consciousness can be solved, and if human consciousness is replicable in AI, then attaining artificial general conscious intelligence (AGCI) is possible, and perhaps needs to be evangelized or discipled, as some claim. On the contrary, if the hard problem of consciousness cannot be solved and human consciousness is not replicable in AI, then AGCI is not possible, and it does not need to be evangelized. And in either case, how can the church begin a theological conversation with AI with its potential to match and exceed human intelligence and performance? A theological position on consciousness and the image of God is proposed, demonstrating the uniqueness of human consciousness in contrast with AI and artificial consciousness. A thorough exposition of the image of God is offered to serve as a cornerstone for any future conversation on a theological perspective of machines (AI).

This book is a historical and theological look into the deliverance and exorcism ministry of John Wesley. It examines how Wesley understood the phenomenon of deliverance and his own practice of it in terms of ordinary and extraordinary gifts. The text looks at how Wesley understood deliverance in general in relation to salvation, and how he understood an aspect of deliverance that involved expulsion of demons. Further, the book assesses how contemporary Wesleyans and Christians in general can apply Wesley's theology and practice to deliverance ministry today. Practices like baptismal vows and the use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are explored in the life of the believer today in terms of deliverance.

The title of the book, The X-Manual, is taken from the word exousia, from the subtitle. It is the Greek word for authority. The word is used throughout the New Testament. For our purposes, it is used to express the divine authority or right to cast out demons--""I have given you authority exousia] to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you"" (Luke 10:19 NIV). Jesus gives believers authority to cast out demons. This book is about spiritual authority over evil. The X-Manual is a practical ""how to"" handbook for clergy and laity on deliverance and exorcism. One reason I wrote the book is because so few understand and/or operate effectively in deliverance ministry. Nowhere is the church more inadequate or excessive than in deliverance ministry. The X-Manual contains specific time-tested biblical instructions on selecting and training a deliverance team, pre-deliverance work, the deliverance session, post-deliverance work, and other useful tools like the C1-13 instrument that helps determine if one needs deliverance. Deliverance is essential to the church's New Testament healing and evangelism ministry. It is time for the church to walk in the authority and power that Christ gave us to set the captives free

Depression is difficult to define. It is commonly described as a chemical imbalance, a subjective experience of despondency, or even a semiotic construct. The various theories of depression—biochemical, psychological, cultural—often reflect one's philosophical anthropology. How one defines the human person is telling in how one defines mental disorder. Philosophy and the sciences tend to offer reductive explanations of what it means to be human, and such approaches rarely consider that we may be spiritual beings and so fail to entertain a theological approach.Peter J. Bellini invites us to reimagine the person in light of the image of God in Christ, the divine enfleshed in human weakness. The Cerulean Soul responds to real challenges in the sciences and philosophy and offers a relational theological anthropology shaped by a cruciform framework that assumes and affirms human contingency, limitation, and fallenness. With reference to Christ's incarnation, Bellini reveals how depression is inexorably tied to our relationship with God as his created beings: original, fallen, and renewed. Despondency serves as a biosocial and spiritual marker for our human weakness, brokenness, and spiritual struggle for meaning and wholeness. Further, it is a call to grow, to be restored, and to be made holy in the image of God in Christ. What emerges is a therapeia of the imago for depression that fills the gaps in our present attempts to determine the malady's etiology and treatment.Taking the missio Dei of union with the risen Christ as its goal, The Cerulean Soul opens up the perennial problem of human despondency to an eschatological trajectory of hope and peace, redemption and transformation, given freely in Christ through the healing and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. Christoformity, informed by the subversive kingdom of God, gives new form to all persons, "abled" and "disabled".

The ministry of casting out demons is either entirely dismissed on one hand or misused and abused on the other. A closed-system natural worldview utterly rejects the notion of a spirit world with spirit beings. To the other extreme, some shortsighted deliverance ministries reject the validity of the health professions and identify every problem in the life of the believer as demonic. The theology of these ministries fails to account for the power of the cross and its daily application in the life of the believer as the normal way in which God delivers from sin and evil. All challenges in the life of the believer do not necessitate a deliverance session. Unleashed is a book that offers a balanced perspective on these matters, including an instrument that can be used to assist in discerning the probable need for deliverance. The C1-13 instrument is revolutionary, transcending the usual inventories by applying variables that are key factors to differentiating degrees of demonic influence. The instrument is also distinct due to its integrative approach that cross-references the work of other professional fields to arrive at a comprehensive picture of the problem and thus a more extensive and effective treatment. ""Dr. Bellini wants to help us to believe in demons and then to be able to determine whether they are present in any given situation. These are important questions for those who seek wholeness and freedom for themselves and understanding for those in ministry. He goes after understanding with the precision of a scientist who takes nothing for granted. Those in ministry where demonization is a possibility can gain much from this book."" --Charles H. Kraft, Professor Emeritus, Fuller School of Intercultural Studies ""In his brand new release entitled Unleashed , Dr. Peter Bellini, from his own research and total life experience, lays the groundwork for a scholarly and sound, effective approach to the integration of the spiritual and the psychological, in addressing the demonic. With all the abuse that has taken place in many circles regarding what is referred to as 'deliverance ministry', Unleashed is a gift to the saints."" --Mark J. Chironna, Church On The Living Edge, Mark Chironna Ministries, Longwood, Florida ""For those on the fence regarding the existence of demons, Dr. Bellini's chapters on the theological background and supernatural worldview of demons are required reading. . . . Overall it is an amazingly balanced book offering a deliverance ministry model that doesn't myopically focus on deliverance solely, but upon complete restoration and wholeness. Sometimes that wholeness happens only through deliverance ministry, more often through the normal means of grace, and sometimes--without apology--through the insights from the medical fields."" --Randy Clark, Overseer of the Apostolic Network of Global Awakening, Founder of Global Awakening ""Pete Bellini is the real thing He is not an armchair theologian who talks about spiritual warfare from a safe distance. His theology has been radically shaped by his time in the trenches fighting evil supernaturalism."" --William. P. Payne, Professor of Evangelism and World Missions, Ashland Theological Seminary Peter J. Bellini is an associate professor of Evangelization at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He earned a PhD in Intercultural Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary. Pete is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. He has served in ministry over the last thirty years as a pastor, church planter, revivalist, deliverance minister, teacher, campus and prison minister, missionary, and evangelist. He is the author of Truth Therapy: Renewing Your Mind With the Word of God (2015) and Participation: Epistemology and Mission Theology (2010).
