This 18-month study has produced some remarkable results during a time of transition inside the space arena. As the dreams of many describe customer needs and lead to more assets in space (at GEO, the Moon and Mars), the realization grows that a robust permanent transportation infrastructure is desperately needed. Essentially, we (ISEC) must insert the "positive environmental impact" aspect of spaceflight into a new vision. Everyone needs to understand the potential benefits of liftoffs accomplished by electricity. Our new vision is: Space Elevators are the Green Road to Space - they enable humanity's most important missions by moving massive tonnage to GEO and beyond. They accomplish this safely, routinely, inexpensively, daily and they are environmentally neutral. This study shows how the Space Elevator can actually enhance the Earth's environment and accomplishes much to fulfill the dreams of many. The compatible and complementary combination of future rockets and Space Elevators leads to the implementation of the Dual Space Access Architecture which enables: Rockets to open up the Moon and Mars with Space Elevators to supply and grow the colonies. In addition, Space Elevators will enable Green Missions such as, Space Solar Power and L-1 Sun Shades.

A NEW Space Transportation Paradigm has emerged. Ideas brought forward in this report are presented in clear and understandable ways, although a revolutionary concept is becoming real. The envisioned cooperative and collaborative operations between rockets and space elevators will benefit mankind into the next century. 1- Space Elevators can be accomplished because there is a material for the tether, 2- Space Elevators are Earth Friendly, and 3- Space Elevators ENABLE Interplanetary Missions with: o Fast Transit to Mars (as short as 61 days, with variations out to 400+) o Can release towards Mars EVERY day (no 26 month wait) o Can move massive amounts of cargo (170,000 Metric tonnes/year to GEO and beyond)

This study was designed to take the concept of Space Elevators and answer some questions relative to space debris. The team built upon the 2010 study on the topic and addressed many other issues to include: -The probabilities of orbital conjunctions between a space elevator and debris in Low Earth Orbit, Geo Earth Orbit, and Medium Earth Orbit. -The growth rate of space debris as it threatens operational space elevator (2010, 2019, 2030)? -Mitigation of risk for the space community through design, policies, operations, and lowering the threat. This year's study topic focused upon calculations for potential conjunction probabilities from densities of debris for 2010, 2019, and 2030. ""Space debris mitigation is an engineering problem with definable quantities such as density of debris and lengths/widths of targets. With proper knowledge and good operational procedures, the threat of space debris is not a show-stopper. However, mitigation approaches must be accepted and implemented robustly.""

In the last year, the International Space Elevator Consortium assessed that basic technological needs can be met with current capabilities: and, each segment of the Space Elevator Transportation System is ready for engineering validation. Because of the availability of a new material as a potential Space Elevator tether, the community strongly believes that a Space Elevator will be initiated in the near term. Included in the book is a series of appendices that are tremendous references to the status of the space elevator today. Included are a lexicon of space elevator terms, over 750 references in the bibliography, short descriptions of eight ISEC year-long studies and two IAA 4-year studies on space elevators, as well as a summary of over 20 Architectural Notes covering the development of space elevator technologies.

The study team took on the challenge of expanding the "body of knowledge" pertaining to the Apex and Geosynchronous elements of the Space Elevator. A special effort was made to describe the elements in the context of an entire Space Elevator. The report complements and expands earlier ISEC Space Elevator reports on the Climber, Operations Concept, Architectures & Roadmaps, and Earth Port. To do so, we have established; 1.A robust set of definitions within the Geosynchronous and Apex Regions, and 2.The Strategic Approach to Architectural Development of a Space Elevator

This history of SAFSP is dedicated to all those men and women who fought the Cold War, in silence - from above. No organization is better at gathering overhead intelligence than the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). Today's NRO grew out of 3 organizations: AF, CIA, and Navy. The AF office for satellite reconnaissance was called the Secretary of Air Force's Office of Special Projects [SAFSP]. This monograph describes the birth of Air Force satellite reconnaissance. When SAFSP was created in response to Presidential recognition of a national imperative, 4 tenets captured the sense of urgency: direct access to national leadership, covert management/operations, highest national priority, and rapid procurement. In addition, 3 management principles led to SAFSP's success over 30+ years of providing reconnaissance intelligence: strong dedication to mission, empowerment at all levels, and reporting by exception.

The International Space Elevator Consortium has created this position paper as a recognition that the space debris problem is an engineering one and can be mitigate. The question: "Will space debris be a show stopper for space elevators?" is answered emphatically - NO! The mitigation concepts presented change the issue from a perceived problem to an engineering concern; but, by no means is it a significant threat. This pamphlet illustrates how the development office for a future space elevator can attack this problem, predict probabilities of collision, and convert the concern into another manageable engineering problem.

The subject selected for this 2013 study is the Space Elevator Tether Climber. The objective of the one year study was to survey current concepts and technologies related to tether climbers, identify critical issues, questions, and concerns, assess their impact on the development of space elevators, and project towards the future. The following are a few of the conclusions: * The study used the concept of "constant power" as a baseline because of its ability to lower design requirements on the tether climber. * The mass breakout of 6 MT for a climber and 14 MT for customer payloads seems feasible. The estimate is that with a travel time of one week to GEO seven tether climbers can be on a tether simultaneously. * The communication architecture should be integrated into the space elevator infrastructure and nodal layout. * Solar power, as the sole source, appears achievable. * The use of laser power as the sole source also seems achievable.

Peter Swan played over 500 games and worked for some of the biggest names in football. Swan fell foul of managers and referees alike, pickingup 10 red cards and countless bookings. But on the other side of the coin is a caring man who always took time out for charity work. After retiring in 2000, he initially struggled to come to terms with life outside football, but has since become a cult figure in Hull, where he now commentates on Hull City's matches. A larger-than-life character with no regrets, Peter Swan tells the remarkable story of the highs and lows of his 16-year career.
